To defeat the dreaded lurgy. Very surprising number of people ill today at work. Some massive superspreader event has occured.

Hiring for a new head of our US science teams! For those with deep research expertise in QEC and good people and leadership skills. The most senior job post I’ve ever advertised and not the sort of role that comes up often. apply.workable.com/riverlane/j/...

Curious now what will happen at March meeting. Not attending this year. Will someone be there and live skying?

Massive error on BBC’s part “The chip is powered by the world’s first topoconductor, …, a peer-reviewed paper published in Nature reports” Paper results conflated with press release! Top article in BBC tech page: www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Reading this took me back to me teens when I had a subscription and this was the first place that heard about quantum computing (I think).

Editorial in news scientist special issue on QC. Publish and show your workings! For a technology with such potential, and so little wider understanding, companies should evidence their claims. Topical the given other news today This is a principle we follow at @riverlaneltd.bsky.social

Interesting moves by Nature and MS. Nature publishes a MS paper w/o evidence of a single qubit, MS does PR claiming 8 qubit chip w/o supporting data it works, AND Nature has a news story that is skeptics about the MS PR. All on the same day! Very coordinated. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Found in the wild! Megaquop quantum computing article! Review to follow…

I think I just cycled past a taxi in Cambridge with Seth Lloyd in the driver seat. Anyone know if he has changed field? Either that or he has a doppelgänger.

I think it would be a good time to reinstantiate the mirror network for the # arXiv. It’s an essential piece of the global research community in math, physics, computer-science and adjacent fields. Under the current circumstances it should not only be hosted in the US. #quantum #math #physics #cs

A nice day. Where we had some informal science talks from riverlane and our nearby friends at ucl and quantinuum.

Nice popular(ish) intro to quantum alogithms by Babbush: youtube.com/watch?v=SbMY...

It’s that time of year again, when I start the long commute to Sheffiled Uni to teach quantum computing, first thing 9am Monday morning.

I got an email reminding me to "increase the visibility of my work". RL did some press on X but I haven't posted on my new home about this. And so.... Our first-gen ASIC/FPGA decoder paper was published, in .... drum roll, please ......... Nature Electronics! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Nice paper :)

Hahahah… seriously though, there is no chance I am reading WOW now, on basic principle of lack of respect for one’s readers. And is this for real!?!?

Bluesky’s science takeover: 70% of Nature poll respondents use platform Roughly 6,000 readers answered our poll, with many declaring that Bluesky was nicer, kinder and less antagonistic to science than X. www.nature.com/articles/d41...?
