A segment of the Jewish community convinced themselves, in the wake of the Oct 7 Hamas violence, that DEI was the problem, that it defined Jews as oppressors and so had to be abolished whole cloth. It was always clear that abolishing (as opposed to improving) DEI would eventually harm Jews, too.
