by the way these are literally the exact same dumbass motherfuckers, not like them, the literal exact same fucking guys, saying government is inefficient and you should cancel it to give them all the governments money so they can provide you services instead

This tweet from the Dilbert guy crystallized something for me: one of the many reasons we're in our current situation is that Americans believe—without really understanding that we believe it—that expertise is fake. It's one of our foundational myths.

I've spent the past year yelling at everyone in my life to read the ELEMENTAL LOGIC novels, so I leapt up in excitement when I saw this in my podcast feed. Loved this episode, with some really thought provoking discussion of messy epics & queer "representation" vs. queer storytelling.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

This is indeed a great way of capturing the vibe! (Original screenshot from FB, Ziv Wities says "so this is a book that superficially looks like THIS, but ACTUALLY what it's doing is THIS")

In the past few years, I've primarily focused on science fiction short fiction on my fanzine. I adore the short form and its hyper focus. Here's a thread of my top 20 SF short stories read in 2024. Full rundown: sciencefictionruminations.com/2025/01/05/m... #scifi #sciencefiction

ICYMI: I released my 2024 recommended reading list a little while ago and you can check out the 108 stories that I really liked here: www.patreon.com/posts/2025-r...

We painfully narrowed down a huge list of great reviews, essays, & other writing, looking for work speculative criticism that represents and enhances the field. I loved this story from the moment I first read it, and I think you’ll love it too.

A new story for the new year!

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes

@diabolicalplots.com prints some great fiction — most recently "St. Thomas Aquinas Administers the Turing Test” by Mary Berman. I loved this exploration of what it means for a wooden being to come to life. Neither Pinocchio nor Data, Likeness is compelling. www.diabolicalplots.com/dp-fiction-1...

The original owner is meeee. There's a story here if the winner ever wants to know, but this necklace-crown has been longing to find its person for awhile now. It's always spoken to me of identity and belonging, of finding your place or missing parts. It deserves to be shown off. Are you its person?

Hey friends, I'm gonna be taking me a break from Bluesky (and most other social media while I'm at it). I'm doing OK. I aten't dead. My usual DMs may (I hope) go unread for some time. Don't hesitate to ping me for anything or to say hi! Right now, best is my contact page: www.zivwities.com/contact

[Timeline cleanse] This elephant family asleep is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

"The Deadlands" is a fantastic magazine, and their Ferryman Coins are DARK and GORGEOUS

EMERGENCY: do I know anyone in/near Huntsville AL who can help a transgender teen who was just kicked out? Nothing but the clothes on her back. She has NO family, friends, classmates, teachers, coaches, etc. She needs shelter &… everything.

My fellow Americans: Vote for town councils and select boards and county boards if you have those things. Seriously, vote.

I'm not in the business of making predictions so the two takes I've been telling people are simply that 1) I am hopeful 2) I am also scared

This book sounds very extremely my jam!

If I've got California friends with recommendations for the more-obscure downballot races, I'd be delighted -- DM me 😊 Thanks!
