New: My dispatch from the hottest club in New York City on Friday — the Luigi Mangione hearing. Truly one of the most fascinating scenes I’ve ever witnessed. With illustrations from inside the courtroom by the great Molly Crabapple www.theverge.com/law/617946/l...

I made the choice to be emotionally destroyed by theater on a Wednesday night? The whole cast of the current Broadway production of Cabaret is amazing and I was blinking away tears from @bebeneuwirth.bsky.social’s What Would You Do until … now. Still. As I leave the theater.

In Florida, a US Jew shot two Palestinians on sight in an attempt to kill them for being Palestinian. It turns out they were not Palestinians, but rather Israeli tourists. They survived the attack, which they initially reported as an antisemitic hate crime. I’m gobsmacked by the synecdoche.

Spending money on theater tickets is apparently how I’m dealing with Trump 2.0?

white women i am begging u to read Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, please just read another book

As per usual, @amandalitman.bsky.social says the thing I wish everyone in Democratic leadership would hear.

My dad, a bald Jewish man in his mid-60s who wears a suit every day to teach high school history, took the time to learn about trans issues so that he could support his students. He would never describe this as antifascist work but it is and I made sure to tell him I’m so proud.

I know you are independent but you're denying yourself the biggest mode of input in NYC local politics, please pick a party and register by Feb 14!

Hosting shabbas meals on a semi-regular basis (ideally once or twice a month) is literally the best thing in my life. Gather a group of friends, feeding them, enjoying their company WITHOUT OUR PHONES? Perfection.

Today’s the day I’m sending our first rapid response fundraising email based on a Trump action (Laken Riley Act! It’s horrific) and I’m having a hard time balancing my rage at the world with my intrigue at how much money this might raise. Being an ethical digital fundraiser is emotionally trying.

My favorite fact about the NYC subway is that there are way more daily riders (about 4 million) than the number of people who fly in the US out of all airports every day (~2.5 million). The scale is hard to get a grasp on.

Max capacity passengers per hour: * Boring Co’s Vegas Loop: 4,500 * NYC subway 6 train: 105,000

This is such good communicating about the impact of policy change. I love it.

Y’all need to understand that the Laken Riley Act is worse than you can imagine. It’s not just “if you commit a crime” it is “if you are accused of a crime” which means that every one of us who isn’t white can and will be targeted for indefinite detention. You gonna walk around with your papers?

The job I started about three months ago has me running a weekly cross-team meeting for the first time and I’ve learned that I have extremely strong opinions on “this could be an email” type updates in meetings.

I’m not gonna read the Gaiman piece. I believe victims when they say he’s a monster. I don’t need the nauseating details. It’s perfectly ok for you to make the same choice. You’re not obligated to traumatize yourself.

This makes me want to read nothing but books that are in the public domain for a while.

I can’t explain how much I love this. Skiing is the bougiest thing that I love, I can’t afford it at all, and I want the ski patrol in Park City to get their $$.

I order overpriced delivery food once or twice a week - and it’s 90% about not having to do the work of cooking and cleaning. Admitting that to myself made it so much easier to accept that habit. I am paying to not have to wash the pot and that’s a choice I can make!

What an extraordinary, devastating essay. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

probably can’t be overstated what a huge deal this would be for Jewish education in the U.S. if it happens. every kid who reads MAUS will find out about the Gaza comic too.

I could not have made a better decision tonight than joining @grammar-girl.bsky.social and @angus.bsky.social at Marie’s Crisis. This place is just such a perfect joyous NYC institution.

Thisssss (I’m at union station waiting for my train and every single Amtrak train is delayed. All of them.)

I have so many feelings about the importance of community care. Just - all the feelings as I walk home from feeding a friend who is recovering from fairly major surgery. Our shul community has a two week meal train fully covered.

sesame street isn't supposed to make money. the post office isn't supposed to make money. not everything is supposed to MAKE MONEY
