Symbolic of fertility + descent of Persephone to underworld. In Nat Archaeo Museum Egnazia: exceptional site in Puglia, Bronze Age to Medieval period.

A fascinating relic of a bygone age - a public scale, where you could go and weigh yourself, apart from on Saturdays, for some reason. In Ujazdowski Park, Warsaw. It says it’s from 1912. Unfortunately closed now.

We all love an old kitchen, especially with a bread oven. This was where Thomas Hardy’s family cooked and ate their meals, using furze (gorse) as fuel top-up and kindling. They sometimes earned extra money by furze-cutting; this was a thing of shame for Eustacia Vye in Return of the Native.
