First week of novice league curling: tied 6-6 in 6, and I was the skip, just like in my anxiety dream! Except, unlike my anxiety dream, I remembered the rules of curling.

As someone who has just reread Seraphina (and loved it even more the second time around) and is finally reading Shadow Scale (and loving it), you cannot imagine the gasp I gusped when I discovered there's not only a new book set in this world forthcoming, but that it involves A NUN

Fifth and final curling lesson, and our team won 5-4 in five ends, a real nail-biter. Next week: onward to the Novice League! Will my knee ever not look bruised, though? Maybe in the off-season.

Excited to get a tetanus shot today. EXCITED, I tell you! That isn't sarcasm. This is my tenth year (I'm on the 5s!) and also there was glass all over the sidewalk, made invisble by the rain and melting snow. Pulled an inch-long sliver out of the sole of my shoe, but not without cutting my thumb

Man who has spent entire political career attacking everybody promises he’ll attack Trump and Elon any minute now

Folks outside the United States - if you want to help the Americans who didn’t vote for this nightmare, please petition your governments to place their most severe sanctions on Elon Musk and all his companies

Anyway, buy my book this Black History Month. An imaginative visual story about mythic beings - world creators & destroyers. Travellers & tricksters. It collects five years of my art. Order from book stores - Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Waterstones, Indigo, your local seller. Your library!

Periodic reminder to new followers: my fifth book is coming out in June! Preorders available now. It's set in the world of Tess and Seraphina, but about 100 years earlier. Not a direct prequel to the other books, but a stand-alone story about a boy, a nun, and half a dozen dead girls.

I don't know how long this will last, but S and I are so in the habit of multiple daily walks that we've decided to just walk OURSELVES at the appointed times each day.

Narrator: THEY WOULD NOT

Went curling this morning to remind ourselves that life goes on. Sometimes in the form of bruised knees, but onward nonetheless.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW UNTIL NOW THAT @rachelhartmanbooks.com HAS A NEW BOOK OUT THIS SUMMER?!?!?!!! Seriously this news made my week #booksky 💙📚🪐 reactormag.com/excerpts-amo...

Another book on a similar topic that I also recommend is Homeland: The War on Terror in American Life, by Richard Beck, which traces a bright, horrifying line from 9/11 to now. Rs and Ds on same track, in same patern. Militarism, late capitalism, fear. Hard to see when you're living through it.

Star Trek did say the 2020s were gonna be a little rough

Speaking only for myself: I taught YA writing, where dystopian novels have long been popular, and (if I were teaching now) it would be fascinating (and relevant!) to discuss how imagination falls short, how reality can/must inform our approach to this kind of material, can we still instill hope...

Today is Feb 4! RHR drops on March 4! Somehow only 28 days remain between now & the first tour event (in NYC! With @hels.bsky.social!), which further means I am slowly dissolving into a puddle of colours & sounds & hopefully will manage to see some of you before embracing my new life as a theremin

This is a long read but it's important Canadians know this evil shit is happening here, and if Poilievre wins, it'll accelerate. And we have got to start calling adults who are obsessed with policing the gender and sexuality of children by the proper term: creeps. These are intensely creepy people.

I, a US expat living in Canada for more than 20 years, have emailed mine. I still vote in federal elections.

Here is the express entry program. I encourage academics and scientists to see if you are eligible for Canadian immigration here.
