An open letter from 36 members of Britain’s oldest Jewish representative body expressed deep criticism of Israel's war in Gaza, which led to a very unusual, public, internecine fight that raises the question: Who represents UK Jews anyway? By @rachelshabi.bsky.social newlinesmag.com/spotlight/a-...

Louis Theroux's The Settlers shows what all too often meets a wall of denialism both within and outside Israel: that the violent, extremist settler movement is not fringe. Rather, it is in Israel's driving seat and informing state policy. Has been for decades

Israel’s battering of Gaza is medieval in its savagery and barbaric violence but with the most modern and advanced weaponry in the world

'There is no law to turn to here and no government that will protect us, no international law and no international bodies that are pushing to stop this violence.' www.nytimes.com/2025/04/25/o...

Rachel Shabi: "With Gaza, we have a war that Western countries, including the UK, including the US, are facilitating, funding, enabling and giving diplomatic cover for"

Rachel Shabi highlights the double standards of our media when it comes their coverage of Ukraine and Gaza.

Beautiful piece Rachel. Must read

It's hard to write about one Palestinian child in Israel’s prisons, trapped in a multi-layered network of impenetrable laws, whereby the occupier judges the occupied. It’s hard because there are so many young Palestinians suffering similar treatment... substack.com/home/post/p-...

New post: the 'unchilding' of Ahmad Manasra rachelshabi.substack.com/p/the-unchil...

Latest episode of #MeetTheWriters on monocle.com - @rachelshabi.bsky.social speaks to @georginagodwin.bsky.social to discuss the complexities & exploitation of antisemitism, explored in her book "Off-White: The Truth about Antisemitism" (via @oneworldbooks.bsky.social) monocle.com/radio/shows/...

From Ha’aretz yesterday, foretold in my substack last week rachelshabi.substack.com/p/end-point

Palestinian Ahmad Manasra was today released after ten years in prison, where he faced ill-treatment and abuse, according to Amnesty. He was arrested at the age of 13. I wrote about his shocking story as featured in the film Advocate in this Guardian piece www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

You can fight against antisemitism and for Palestinian liberation at the same time, as part of the same struggle. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise

"How widespread is hunger amongst the population [of Gaza]?" Hani Mahmoud: "Its everywhere"

If Israel’s allies don’t act now, Gaza will be lost as Palestinians are killed – directly or through starvation and disease – or forced onto a patch of the strip, a process the Israeli journalist Meron Rapoport summed up in two words: ‘concentration camp’ rachelshabi.substack.com/p/end-point

First proper substack post, Israel will seize and settle Gaza if western allies don’t act now (and should have long before, but also: right now) rachelshabi.substack.com/p/end-point

"it was clear, very early on, that giving Israel continuous free rein in Gaza could only have led to this trajectory. And Israel’s allies knew it."

I'm now on Substack and this is my first post, on Gaza rachelshabi.substack.com/p/end-point

“A lot of us went there, I went there, because they killed us and now we’re going to kill them... We’re not only killing them ... we’re killing their wives, their children, their cats, their dogs. We’re destroying their houses and pissing on their graves.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

So good that Rachel has a substack at last - I just finished reading her book 'Off White' about antisemitism recently and I am absolutely in love with the way she writes - taking messy, difficult issues & analysing them so clearly Sign up sign up!

I’m on Substack, finally - come join me there! First post on Gaza coming…. rachelshabi.substack.com

It's impossible to put into words how vile this is. Murdering paramedics in cold blood. And then the lies. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

Beautiful piece about passing on Iraqi Jewish cooking by @samanthaellis.bsky.social - although I cannot get past the lack of love for Iraqi pickled turnips, champions of the pickle world www.theguardian.com/food/2025/ap...

Exactly why the Israeli government has best-friended antisemitic far-right politicians across Europe: they give Israel cover, all the way, and in return get image rehabilitation along the lines of: 'We can't be antisemitic! Look, we love Israel!' www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

I'll be at the Oxford Literary Festival this Wednesday 2 April talking about my book Off-White with the brilliant @yasminalibhaibrown.bsky.social, come along if you're in town! oxfordliteraryfestival.org/literature-e...

Join us at Caabu on Thursday 27 March at 1pm UK time (GMT) for this online discussion with journalist and writer @rachelshabi.bsky.social about her book, Off White: The Truth About Anti-Semitism, moderated by @emhilton.bsky.social. More details and registration here: caabu.org/events/caabu...

“The far-right has found in its pretend fight against antisemitism a way to divide progressives while at the same time clobbering them” @rachelshabi.bsky.social

“It is grotesque to pretend that Team Trump, home to antisemitic conspiracy theories, Nazi salutes and Holocaust denialism, is fighting antisemitism, rather than actively reproducing it” — excellent piece by @rachelshabi.bsky.social on Mahmoud Khalil’s detention www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I am quoted in this great piece by @rachelshabi.bsky.social. My point is that the real pernicious antisemitism on display here is Trump's effort to turn Jews into a model minority for his fascist regime.

My piece on Mahmoud Khalil’s shocking, unlawful detention and how the far right uses fake “defence” of Jewish communities to push divisive authoritarianism

Really looking forward to this @caabu.bsky.social event next week with the wonderful @rachelshabi.bsky.social in conversation with @emhilton.bsky.social www.caabu.org/events/caabu...

Great video report here on the young Israelis refusing to serve www.theguardian.com/world/video/...

Insightful podcast on weaponising antisemitism and the responses of Jewish communities to Israel's war on Gaza, from the London Review of Books. Now i want to read @rachelshabi.bsky.social and Peter Beinhart's books. www.lrb.co.uk/podcasts-and...

The detention of Mahmoud Khalil is a 'blatant example of how the Trump administration uses "smokescreen antisemitism" to obscure, confuse, and create cover for its despotic plans that harm everyone.' www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025...

Look, this is not happening “on behalf of Israel”, any more than Britain has had ten years of roaring moral panic about Palestine solidarity as a helping hand to Likud. This is happening because it’s an available excuse for the centre and right to crack down on and exclude the left.

Looking after this one for a week, so I guess there’ll be a few pics

Crystal clear that far-right politicians use a performative caring about Jewish people and a pretence of fighting antisemitism primarily to push far-right agendas www.jpost.com/diaspora/art...

Now there's a Gaza rebuild plan that isn't Trump/Israel's ethnic cleansing. Western leaders sitting on the sidelines for the past 16 months should get behind it www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

Thank you to all who took part in our afternoon of readings in solidarity with the Educational Bookshop in Jerusalem & to celebrate Palestinian rights & culture. As Ahmed Najar says, the bookshop is “a symbol of resistance, knowledge, & history” that Israel may “seek to destroy but can never erase”.

Rachel Shabi: "None of the papers have anything about... Israel collapsing the ceasefire and blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is a war crime, and it is striking that that has not made any of the front [pages of the UK papers]"
