The defunding of USAID is cruel and just plain stupid.

www.cbc.ca/news/politic... When I first heard we now boo at the amerikkan anthem, it felt right, a legitimate heartfelt response to the orangediktator's taunting 51st state gibberish. I do fear though in extreme cases our new found sense of righteousness sounds too much like amerikkkan jingoism.

In 2019, RFK Jr visited Samoa to spread anti-vax lies, spurring a measles outbreak that led to the deaths of 83 people - mostly children. We can’t let that tragedy repeat in Texas. The MMR vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles. Let’s stop the spread. www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-m...

Person by person—that’s how grassroots #resistance takes place. The tariffs will be harmful to all of us.

Welcome back, Cathy.

Republicans are racing forward with a budget that will raise costs for working families. People will pay more for food, health care, education, and child care – while Republicans plot more tax cuts for billionaires.

“For me, literacy means freedom. For the individual and for society.” “So read the books they're banning, that's where the good stuff is! If they don't want you to read it, there's a reason why.” Born on this day in 1957 LeVar Burton #BookSky

Democrats introduced 32 amendments to the Republican budget that would have: —Rejected extreme cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and programs that Americans rely on —Kept billionaires and big corporations from getting $4.5 trillion in tax breaks

Trump just announced he is banning the Associated Press from the Oval Office and Air Force One for refusing to obey Trump’s demand to rename the Gulf of Mexico. This is a direct assault on the First Amendment.

While Democrats are standing up for the middle class, Republicans are for their billionaire donors.

Here’s what Democrats did today (February 14):

Some important Democratic wins from this week 🙌

The Trump administration is balancing the budget on the backs of veterans.

French President Emmanuel Macron has invited European leaders to an emergency summit in Paris on Monday. The meeting aims to address challenges arising from recent discussions between Trump and Putin, and reflects the need for Europe to respond collectively to these developments.

This is the way.

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

The thing about “move fast and break things,” is that it was such a disaster for Facebook that Mark Zuckerberg had to spend YEARS telling journalists that he his company had abandoned it as a motto and a driving ethos.

Public education is the backbone of American democracy. In the richest country in the history of the world, we cannot abandon our teachers and our public schools.

Happy Valentine’s Day to @richardunionguy.bsky.social (my remarkable barista husband) and all my Bluesky friends.

Nothing can fully compensate for the failure to build significant social housing in Canada since the 1990s. I'm also happy to see Montreal continuing to buy up low-rent private housing to keep rents low. It's a strategy Montreal began in 1989 and then abandoned in 1994.

“We shouldn’t accept that Doug Ford can’t be beaten,” says writer and political theorist @davidmoscrop.com. “We should keep his record close in mind, recalling that, in politics, the past is typically prologue—and Ford’s doesn’t bode well for our future.” thewalrus.ca/doug-ford-trump/
