🇨🇿 and 🇸🇰 comprehenders show agreement attraction effects in gender agreement, but only (!) when both the attractor and the head are case-syncretic with the nominative (read: the form looks the same). The effect is super tiny (-5ms) and difficult to accommodate under cue-based retrieval!

Happy to share a chapter on psycholinguistic theories alternative generation that I helped write with my supervisor Nicole Gotzner, who (with others) put this whole great book together! link.springer.com/chapter/10.1...

I want to tell you a story. In 2015, I was in the small Lithuanian city of Panevežys, standing with the locals, watching a military parade. But this was no ordinary parade, because marching alongside the Lithuanian troops were our American allies.🧵1/17

New paper alert 🚨 Languages like 🇨🇿 have negative concord - you must always say "I didn't see nobody" to express a single negation. I looked at whether the mechanism that processes this online is susceptible to illusions just like NPIs or agreement are. And it turns out it is!

Hey linguistics Bluesky! This semester I'm teaching intro psycholinguistics and pragmatics classes and I'm looking for some good recent comprehensive textbooks, any tips?

LMs need linguistics! New paper, with @futrell.bsky.social, on LMs and linguistics that conveys our excitement about what the present moment means for linguistics and what linguistics can do for LMs. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2501.17047. 🧵below.

ELM Proceedings are out (thank you, editor's!) and with them my new paper with Nicole Gotzner showing that in the finished representation of pragmatic meaning, only the relevant stronger alternatives are present, while other associates are weeded out. journals.linguisticsociety.org/proceedings/...

My first day at a new job!

Move over bouba-kiki! New study on crossmodal iconicity shows [r] = rough and [l] = smooth, even in langs that conflate them. The results show "that speech sounds are not just acoustic objects, but they also have a texture and a shape to them". #iconicity 🐦🐦

Exciting new paper published today! "Reproducible research practices and transparency across linguistics" by Bochynska, Keeble, Halfacre, Casillas, Champagne, Chen, Röthlisberger, Buchanan, & Roettger. Read it here: escholarship.org/uc/item/6m62...

More (or should I say less 🤔) number agreement attraction in 🇨🇿! Our paper with Jan Chromý and Jakub Dotlačil suggests that the phenomenon is either absent in the language or very small in size 1/n
