#ENGvIND starts tomorrow at Trent Bridge. In lieu of a formal preview piece, here's a brief thread instead based on what I think are some of the key storylines / talking points. Feel free to skip to the end if you just want to watch the samosa-mankad video.

Great to attend the inaugural Sports Journalism Educators Conference at the University of Salford yesterday. MediaCity = stunning ☀️ Being part of the Educators panel & discussing the importance of women’s sport in the curriculum = 🥳💛 Thanks for having me!

****NEW SEMINAR ALERT**** Also PSA: As this is the last seminar of the 2024/25 academic year, we’re currently looking for speakers for the 2025/26 academic year. So if you’re interested in presenting at @ihr.bsky.social, reach out to me or @rafnicholson.bsky.social on here to find out more

Not sure if you've heard of the Olympics, Sanjay? Good luck trying to get the IOC to move it so that it doesn't clash with your comp 👍

By my reckoning, the first standalone women's match at The Oval took place 90 years ago...

I have no idea what has gone on between Chloe Hill and Worcestershire, but dropping their best player doesn't seem to have been the smartest move. live.nvplay.com/ecb/?tab=m_s...

How cool is it that Warwickshire Bears have two mascots - one boy and one girl! Obviously the big question is, who gets to compete in the mascot race…?

Some interesting reflections from Lottie here after her first series in charge. www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/j...

@anniechave.bsky.social and @rafnicholson.bsky.social at the Cricket Society lunch in Taunton.

Lauren Filer is now working with the best coaches in England. Surely somebody can find a way to stop her falling over in her follow-through? It can't be good for her body!

Theory behind NSB and Dunks opening: Lottie looked at the weather forecast and decided this was likely to end up as a foreshortened thrash-a-thon?

Hayley Matthews has been ruled OUT of the third ODI at Taunton tomorrow due to her shoulder injury. Decision has been made as a precaution, “with an eye on her recovery and availability for the upcoming home series against South Africa”.

My latest published, co-authored article highlights the success of The Hundred in creating a positive experience for female spectators, plus increasing the audience for & breaking down men’s negative perceptions of women’s cricket. Available here (open access): www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

So Cricinfo have the wrong fixture listed for today. Someone has just copied and pasted the men’s fixture, apparently not realising that Yorkshire are not even one of the teams competing in the Tier 1 Women’s Blast.

The many phases of Lanky the Giraffe: 1. Having a rest.

A hundred for Amy Jones after a 12 year wait. An ODI cap for Linsey Smith after a 7 year wait. What a day!!! www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/m...

Genuinely love that the Windies are giving this a crack. Why the heck not. Have some fun. (Not too much though or I'll have to do a last-minute rewrite.)

Imagine being Emma Lamb, recalled to the side for the first time in 2 years, due in next after being asked to bat at no.3 for the first time in your career, and watching this. My nerves would be absolutely shattered.

If you're wondering when Amy Jones last opened the batting for England in an ODI, it was in 2019 v Australia at Canterbury when Ellyse Perry blew England away. She got a duck, although - to be fair - so did 3 of the other England batters.

A bit more of the context to that win here. NB I wrote this in 2013... we might perhaps now refer to the rise and fall of West Indies Women. The reasons are largely the same - underinvestment. www.espncricinfo.com/story/the-be...

HEATHER KNIGHT INJURY UPDATE: An MRI scan has revealed that Heather Knight has suffered a significant tendon injury to her right hamstring and will be ruled out of home international cricket and The Hundred in 2025.

While this summer's programme is a pilot scheme for men only, I understand that MCC are looking to work with the ECB in future years to work out how they could expand the scheme to cover female players, complementing the new three-tier domestic system.

Pretty sure this is the first silverware Lancashire have won since they did the double in 2017, back in the old County Champs days. Some of the same personnel today as in the pic below! 🌹
