On the front page of @cnn.com is a feature on how #NIH funding cuts might impact #childhoodcancer. Thanks to MJ Lee for spotlighting this issue, and I was glad to be able to contribute. These kids deserve the best, not cuts! #CANSky #PEDSky www.cnn.com/2025/02/25/h...

Who benefits from US funding uncertainty? Hours after posting this, I got an email inviting me to China with a “package to support my research for 20 years.” Apparently, generous offers are available to all good scientists!🧪🧠

American science is under attack Opinion piece by Dr Harold Varmus, Nobel Prize winner, former director of the #NIH and the #NCI 🧪 “Perhaps what’s most disheartening is what feels like the absence of widespread opposition to this unraveling” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/14/o...

The NIH’s new imposed standard indirect cost rate threatens life-saving brain & behavior research that benefits millions of Americans. SfN, with other scientific organizations, urge reversal of this policy & implore Congress to protect critical research infrastructure. Full statement: bit.ly/4jVJnCL

how the NIH contributes to the economy in my home state — find yours www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-... dollars cut is a 2.5x economic return nullified, many good jobs lost, and locally economies and their healthcare weakened no savings to our country, but rather incredible losses

Science is absolutely key to the US's success but this government's intention to now dramatically reduce the part of the federal grants that go to the university (in addition to the researchers; the "indirects") is like removing the unseen roots of a tree and expecting it to continue to flourish.

“NIH produces an astounding return on investment to the American taxpayer. In Fiscal Year 2022, NIH research funding supported 568,585 jobs and generated $96.84 billion in economic activity — that’s $2.64 of economic activity for every $1 of research funding.” www.researchamerica.org/2023-oped-us...

As a pediatric hematologist oncologist I’d like to remind y’all that federal funding for ALL childhood cancers combined is only 4% of overall cancer research funding. CHILDREN with CANCER. Who deserve every single chance they can get yet are shown over and over how little our society cares.

This is a really exciting paper on improving therapeutic index using dual-payload nanomedicines for combination therapy in cancer. Congrats Satchi-Fainaro lab and team! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39671487/

Limited activity in CDK4- or CDK6-amplified tumors, although central nervous system tumors warrant future investigation from this phase II trial of palbociclib in cancer patients. Results from NCI-MATCH ECOG-ACRIN Trial EAY131 Subprotocol Z1C @uofpenn.bsky.social aacrjournals.org/clincancerre...

A number of #AYA cancer survivors experience insurance and financial hardships, including foregoing medical care due to financial constraints, problems paying medical bills, and difficulties accessing loans or insurances. #survonc #ayacsm link.springer.com/article/10.1...
