It looks like someone is moving on?

Check out our timely deep dive on the former governor's comeback. He's racked up endorsements and is leading in some polls for the mayoral race. @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social @cityandstateny.bsky.social

“We are a nation of laws, not ruled by a king."

NY1 reports that Hochul is looking to introduce "legal sanctions" on Mayor Eric Adams that would limit his power, rather than removing him from office. The sanctions would probably require approval from the state Legislature and City Council & could drive him to resign. ny1.com/nyc/all-boro...

The bill will recover significant revenues for the state. By @cityandstateny.bsky.social’s @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social

City & State Publisher Tom Allon's latest on the casino push downstate...

New York's finally had it with Trump as Hochul declares war in response to his move to kill congestion pricing.

New York finally has a leader taking a stand.

Also worth noting, she is slightly outraising Avilés thus far www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

It stems from a cold, ruthless and selfish individual. I couldn't believe he was randomly associating this tragedy with DEI. Infuriating!

To skeet or not to skeet? That is the question. 🤔

Trump will do everything he can to shut down congestion pricing and the state will surely respond with legal action. Check out our report by @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social.

And it's not because he's a Corey Hart wannabe!

“Nonprofits never hesitate to answer the call for help. Now, it’s time for government to answer the nonprofit sector’s call for help,” Adams said in this exclusive report published by City & State's New York Nonprofit Media.

Like Bloomberg, she may not be the most dynamic public speaker or have the moxie of Eric Adams (or Ed Koch), but it seems like voters are yearning for competence and leaders who can manage some of the city’s chronic issues and come up with creative solutions. Less swagger, more hands-on competence.

“His legal issues trump – no pun intended – his political issues,” said political consultant Chris Coffey. “Pardon is legal strategy No. 1. If the questions are between his freedom and whether he gets reelected next time, your freedom is always going to win out.”

When I tell her the question my Gen Z friends and millennial peers have asked me most often about her over my three years covering her – “Is she actually crazy?” – the 70-year-old laughs. “I love it when they ask that.” @sophiekrichevsky.bsky.social @cityandstateny.bsky.social

I think we've found the first mayor of New York City who has become less willing to expound on the national political questions of the moment the deeper into their term they go.

Sounds like an episode off the Apprentice 2.0

“People want to see police officers in the stations and on the trains,” Hochul said. She added, as she has numerous times in the past, that seeing officers makes people feel better. “I’m not going over crime statistics, it doesn’t matter.” @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social @cityandstateny.bsky.social

What's more important in the end? Less traffic and cleaner air for the residents and workers in the Central Business District or the 11% percent of people who drive into the CBD for work (plus the theater goers and others who depend on cars, but are being pushed to switch to public transit).

Our correspondent Kelly Grace Price received a FOIL request on state prison deaths to produce this investigative piece within days of Robert Brooks' death at the Marcy Correctional Facility. Coincidence? Perhaps. Check out this well-researched and haunting report.

Looks like resigning or being removed would have been cheaper with a Notice of Claim filed, signaling a possible law suit. Check out this scoop by Senior City Hall Reporter Annie McDonough. @anniemcdonough.bsky.social

My brilliant colleagues at @cityandstateny.bsky.social have produced a helpful guide to the major candidates running in this year's NYC mayoral election: www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

Grounding his speech in a vision that’s hard to disagree with – making the city safer, more affordable and more welcoming for families – is a smart, if not entirely surprising approach in a reelection year, write @anniemcdonough.bsky.social @hollypret.bsky.social and Sahalie Donaldson.

At @cityandstateny.bsky.social, publisher Tom Allon argues that our clear and consistent economic message is making this campaign the "breakout success" of 2025. And we're just getting started.

An exclusive from City Hall reporter Sahalie Donaldson.

"The first South Asian man and native Ugandan (and the second Muslim) to serve in the Assembly, Mamdani has become an alluring choice for the growing constituency of young democratic socialists multiplying in neighborhoods like Astoria, Park Slope, Sunnyside, Bushwick..."

One of City & State's hottest topics last year, and sure to be the same in 2025.

Canal/Broadway on Day 3 of congestion pricing. This is frankly incredible.

Discovered this crazy video of OG horror maestro Vincent Price showing how important it is to not take life so damn seriously. Borrowing from the great @rshields37.bsky.social, here's today's mood 🖖 😊:

It's official! And the streets below my window are especially quiet this Sunday morning... What can Manhattanites expect today? Cleaner air? Less noise? Fewer vehicles? What about Bronxites? New Jerseyans? Are you all really more impacted? Can't we all just get along? We shall see...

"Goddamn Newark?" That's a little harsh. As for the "damn hearing," I feel your pain.

Mamdani out raising funds.

Renewing the ‘Make C-SPAN Free Forever’ campaign =>

This should make Eric Adams happy if Hochul is successful. @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social @cityandstateny.bsky.social

A newsroom legend and a dear friend.

“His leadership and commitment to decent, affordable housing stems from his deeply rooted faith and love for all,” Karen Haycox, former CEO of Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County, said last year after Carter announced he was going into Hospice care. @cityandstateny.bsky.social

Well deserved!

The big unknown will of course be President-elect Donald Trump, as some lawmakers and officials fear that new federal policies may harm the state or necessitate some form of state response to protect New Yorkers.

Of course I have to repost.

Another hold-up for the MTA. @rebeccaclewis.bsky.social breaks it down.

Very true. However, I think tourists like this are lame. How do profess to be a frequent traveler and come to our city and not be more prepared to ride something like our iconic subway? There's also such a thing as actually asking someone for help, like an MTA employee instead of Google.

Caban is alleged to have helped perpetuate gender discrimination within the NYPD by failing to appoint women to prominent positions and more specifically, failing to take corrective action despite knowing about the sexual harassment Walls endured. @hollypret.bsky.social @anniemcdonough.bsky.social

“The City’s plan to defund retiree healthcare has now been analyzed by 13 different judges across all three levels of the state judiciary. Every single judge – all 13 of them – have concluded that the City’s plan is unlawful.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was defeated by Rep. Gerry Connolly to lead the Oversight Committee for the Democrats in an internal vote on Tuesday.
