Don't pretend to fully understand the trading language but this all sounds pretty fishy to me...

No, no this can’t be right. Every newspaper that fawningly printed Jeff Bezos’ press release basically word for word said it was Katy Perry and Gayle King that did a feminism

NEW A note about injunctions in the context of the Abrego Garcia case What courts can and cannot order - and what those injuncted can and should do By me Substack emptycity.substack.com/p/a-note-abo... Personal blog davidallengreen.com/2025/04/a-no...

Josephine Butler (1828-1906), arguably most effective campaigner for women’s rights of her time, was born #OTD 1828 in Milfield, Northumberland. She ended coverture (whereby a woman’s legal rights were subsumed by her husband’s), criminalised child prostitution and human trafficking.

The Teeswork Freeport corruption in short. 2 businessmen paid £110 for a £100m site. We paid £462m to clean it up they paid nothing They made £100m selling scrap metal from clean up, we received nothing. Michael Gove covers it up.

Amen to that.

"It is for Congress to declare war, but Trump is using wartime laws like the AEA anyway. And it is for Congress to regulate trade, but Trump is conducting international trade policy by himself. There are checks and balances and a separation of powers to stop this. They are simply not being used."🎯

This, this and thrice this👇

Are you done with voting for the "lesser evil" and never really feeling heard? Same... 😤 We've had enough. That's why we're demanding a proportional system where we can vote with our hearts - and not through gritted teeth.

The EU has a gigantic stick in its possible trade retaliation arsenal. But it's so big, they may never dare to use it. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

"One of my recent students came to me for help with a particularly topical issue, which brought up a far more in-depth discussion than they had expected..."

Inspired by @mark-carney.bsky.social and Canadians everywhere. We’re all fighting back on our home ice!

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

Under Proportional Representation, if a party wins 25% of the vote, it gets roughly 25% of the seats. Under First Past the Post, it could translate to 50% of all seats, or 5%, or pretty much any other number. ...But people still keep telling us that PR is "too complicated".

Our precious #NHS has been deliberately broken. Never forget that, when the Conservatives came to power In 2010, our NHS was rated the fairest, most efficient and cost-effective healthcare system in the world and had its highest ever public approval rating.

Happy Mother's Day to Mums and Mother figures everywhere.

Shook.

Selling off reservoirs, failing to invest, polluting our water – these aren't just acts of negligence. They undermine our national water security. In an existential crisis we might call that what it is: sabotage. In a time of national peril, sabotage has another name: treason. #sewagecrisis

Today we have launched the #DignityDeclaration in response to the Spring Statement. We are calling for an alternative to the government’s enrichment of the few at the expense of the many. 80+ progressive political leaders have signed. ✍️ Add your name: thedignitydeclaration.co.uk

I want more onshore wind farms all over the UK, I’ve campaigned for them my whole life. I would even like a wind turbine in our garden but planning wouldn’t allow it! Peat is a natural carbon store making it a really silly place to put turbines.

Just...wow...

"There is an alternative to spending cuts - tax the super rich!" Sara Hall of @taxjusticeuk.bsky.social A windfall tax on banks could bring £15 billion from the big 4 banks alone - *triple* the amount of proposed cuts to disability benefits. Add your name 👉 bit.ly/taxthebanks

"There's no such thing as fiscal rules, they're invented by the government" - @premnsikka Spending cuts are a choice. Poverty is a choice. It's time to make different choices. Call on Rachel Reeves to #TaxTheBanks and extreme wealth tomorrow 👉 bit.ly/taxthebanks

My latest for @prospectmagazine.co.uk

Made in Pendlebury, born in Stretford: L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) remains the artist most closely associated with the north. ‘My ambition was to put the industrial scene on the map because nobody had seriously done it,’ he said. Incredibly, nobody had. 1/6

Something positive for Saturday. This organisation provides flat-packed, hand-cranked, communal washing machines to refugee camps / other areas of need. This saves a lot of water, time and physical effort for predominantly women and girls. Please support if you can. www.justgiving.com/twmpfoundation
