I love how in Interstellar the astronauts discuss their mission for the first time while on the mission. Just like real life.

JUST RELEASED! My colleague Sam Bradley has been directing this awesome new game over at Don't Nod!

More like this

I'm speaking at GDC about 2D grids in video games! Hex grids, isometric grids, irregular grids, spatial distortions, taxicab-vs-Chebyshev spheres, all the usual stuff. Level up your grid game! #GDC2025 #Design @officialgdc.bsky.social schedule.gdconf.com/session/grid...

what kind of role modeling is this for youngsters we're going to see kids running around tariffing each other

I'm new to Charlie Theel, but his site Player Elimination has well-written, enjoyable design analysis with as high a quality bar as anything I've read. Designers of all experience levels should go check it out!

Rewatched Ex Machina, which I had criticized as inaccurate about robotics and AI. But on rewatch I realized it's actually about misogyny and variations of masculinity, a timely depiction and warning at the rise of the manosphere. Let's hope Alex Garland is not equally prescient with Civil War.

A UI/UX suggestion: If I am highlighting a section of text, and pressing right extends my highlight to the right, should pressing left extend my highlight to the left? No, it should not. Stop doing that.

I see more criticism here of Democrats in Congress than I do condemnation of Republicans. And yet it is the GOP who are enabling Trump. It tells me a lot when I see you regularly bash our side but say nothing, ever, about the other. Reflect on your choices. You may be helping the fascists.

It's ultra wild that Elon Musk, who is shutting down aid for poor, starving, and struggling people worldwide, equates himself more with the good guy rebellion of Star Wars, Divergent, etc., than the evil empire. How broken does your brain have to be

These are the good guys supporting DEI. Reward them with your business. Costco Meijer Kroger Giant Grocery Ben & Jerry’s Ulta, Macy’s Old Navy Nordstrom’s TJ Maxx GoTo Foods ( Moe’s Southwest Grill, Mcalister’s, Auntie Anne’s, Jamba, Cinnabon…) Dollar Tree Walgreens Wegmans

Being a billionaire is morally wrong. You don’t need a thousand million dollars. You aren’t doing anything with it, and you could be using it to help suffering people all over the world. Part of the US’s problem is people equate rich with good, but hoarding power is closer to petty cowardice.

My fave Caves of Qud story is actually from GDC, 6 years ago or so. @unormal.bsky.social and Jason presented the procedural text generation which produced the book title ** Instructions For The Rarest of Circumstances ** I think about it all the time and want to read and/or write this book.

If you wrote your name in a book 20 years ago, I'm definitely going to google to figure out where you are now and what you've been up to. Just can't go seeding the earth with compelling mysteries like that.

I find that one of the hardest skills in video games is predicting how the audience will understand your work on their first encounter with it. But it's also one of the most powerful skills to have.

Watching some Ghost of Tsushima video for work and I'm all: I should go back and play this entire game again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHhh...

I think the game design of American democracy could be improved. This is an obvious degenerate strategy.

Looking for an invite to #RiseUp email if anyone has one.

Alex does some of my favorite writing about games, and this bit of analysis regarding Gary Gygax interviewed by Harvey Smith is a great example. "(I guess he was working on Thief: Deadly Shadows at the time?)" Close! That was me! Harvey was directing Deus Ex: Invisible War down the hallway.

Was definitely a highlight the other day when @johnromero.bsky.social added ME on Linked In. Sure, we've met a bunch of times and strictly speaking were both creative directors at the same company, but I didn't want to presume on one of the elder game gods.

It seems 2025 will be very unsubtle with its metaphors and foreshadowing.

If your name is Kim and you were in a seminal 80s/90s indie rock band, then you released an amazing solo album in 2024.

My colleague Jeff's personal project is really gorgeous and dreamlike - love those colors! Would totally play this. Longer trailer is here - www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...

Just picked up **Bioframe Outpost** by @rudolfkremers.bsky.social. Speaking my language: "Inspired by classic 70s and 80s sci-fi", "exploration, experimentation, emergent gameplay and narrative", "photography-based", "non-linear", "a fresh take on Metroidvania gameplay." Anyone try it yet?

👎 Apps that steal focus a thousand times while launching 👎 I'm looking at you, Discord and Steam. Get your shit together.
