Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently said one of his biggest regrets is that Canada doesn’t use #RankedChoiceVoting. But Canada’s Liberal and Conservative parties both use #RCV to choose their leaders, so his party will elect the next PM with RCV.

From @americanbar.org: “In sum, the research provides evidence that #RCV is an improvement over plurality voting with clear benefits in terms of representation, campaign quality, mobilization, and turnout.”

Why are partisan politicians in Ohio and West Virginia trying to ban cities from using #RankedChoiceVoting? They want to restrict voter influence because they fear that if #RCV proves popular, momentum could build for broader adoption at higher levels.

When the Ohio Statehouse rams through legislation to serve a handful of special interests—while ignoring testimony from hundreds of Ohioans—we know The System doesn't represent The People. That's why Ohioans object when The System attacks #RankedChoiceVoting:

How the heck do social studies teachers help kids understand the difference between the way society is supposed to work and the way it doesn’t work these days?

Our February Statewide Meeting will focus on "Learning from Successful Local Campaigns for RCV" and our featured speaker will be Miguel Trindade Deramo, who was a Member of the Steering Committee for last year's Initiative 83 for RCV in DC. RSVP for the zoom link: rtvo.org/feb2025

By John Sabin in today’s Chronicle-Telegram:

"Tens of millions of people stayed home this Election Day. Reform efforts like #RCV could be an exciting way to engage voters fed up with the status quo."

Senate Bill 63 wouldn't just ban #RankedChoiceVoting, it would violate the Ohio Constitution's Home Rule Authority for charter cities and counties to choose how we elect our own leaders. Learn more: rtvo.org/stoptheban

“Opponents of #RCV argue, without evidence, that it is confusing or unfair or ahistorical. The reality is that special interests and politicians who benefit from the status quo are the ones truly threatened by a system that empowers voters.”

We caught up with friends and made new friends during our retreat at Nocterra Brewing! We had fun playing games like “First to 51”—which uses #RankedChoiceVoting. Now we’re energized for even more supporters to join our Volunteer Strategy Forum on March 8: rtvo.org/strategicplanning

Happy #BlackHistoryMonth! Did you know that the first Black councilmembers in several Ohio cities – including Cincinnati and Toledo – were elected using #RankedChoiceVoting? rtvo.org/history

“Significant majorities of Utah voters enjoyed using #RankedChoiceVoting, found #RCV easy to use, found instructions to be clear, were more likely to vote for their preferred candidate under RCV, and wanted to continue using RCV.”

As we pursue a more grassroots-driven strategy, we're inviting all Ohioans who support #RankedChoiceVoting to a "Food, Fun, & Friendship" Social Retreat on Feb 9: rtvo.org/2025retreat This will help build community in preparation for a Volunteer Strategy Forum on March 8: rtvo.org/strategicplanning

When voters learn to use #RankedChoiceVoting for single-winner races like mayor, they are more likely to support using #RCV to achieve #ProportionalRepresentation for multi-member districts like city council at-large. From @thefulcrum-us.bsky.social:

"Simple Civics" lesson by PBS on how #RankedChoiceVoting works:

Perhaps Canadians would be less opposed to a merger with the United States if our government was less dysfunctional? Citizens of both countries would benefit from more truly democratic systems like #RankedChoiceVoting:

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s biggest regret when announcing that he’s stepping down after nearly a decade? He wishes for #RankedChoiceVoting because “figuring out how to pull together and find common ground remains something that is really important for democracies.”

Our Statewide Meeting on January 25 will be broadcast from Cincinnati, where we'll have an in-person chapter launch to support local efforts to bring #RankedChoiceVoting back to Cincy: rtvo.org/CincyJan25

Ohio State Senator Bill Blessing (R-Colerain Township) has a smart idea: Instead of making Ohio’s constitutional amendment process even harder, the initiated statute process could be made easier, with stronger protections against Statehouse meddling. www.cincinnati.com/story/news/p...
