New late night writing record: my upcoming paper's introduction section, 3am. (last time was my committee meeting report, 1 sth am, >6 years ago) I just wanted to get to the part where I yell about a-syn strains being strains because they fit the definition of strains. to spite the strain deniers.

Finally! The Hydroxychloroquine study by Gautret et al. has been retracted. I wrote a critical post about it in March 2020, days after it came out. scienceintegritydigest.com/2020/03/24/t...

My labmates just warned me that our "for funsies" photo made it to the joint-universities research project website. As a representative "people" shot. I'm getting a good laugh over this. www.tridentpreclinicaltrials.org/people

Last call! I'm recruiting a PhD student for this new adventure; applications are due 12/1. As described on this website, it's important to reach out before applying to this particular program to see if we are a good match. psychology.sas.upenn.edu/graduate/inf...

My most liked X post, reposting here: 1 in 10 of the top 100 ‘best’ scientists are named Michael or Eric, but only 3% are female according to Research.com. Putting aside the obvious flaws of the H-index, these numbers are disheartening: research.com/scientists-r... #SciComm #WomenInSTEM

Reading my thesis proposal from 5 years ago to figure out how I’m writing this thesis outline now Realizing that, as much as I thought my project derailed over my PhD (because of stuff that didn’t work + weird findings that led me astray) … I was pretty faithful to my proposed specific aims? 😮

Putting together a Canadian Neuroscientist starter pack. If you're not on the list let me know! Started really small and certainly missed many go.bsky.app/L6WSrTD

We're hiring a postdoc! Our lab is interested in understanding how visual perception and mental imagery relate to each other, both in the mind and the brain. We're looking for someone with fMRI experience to work on this topic. Please apply! subjectivity.sites.northeastern.edu/research/arc...

My lab is recruiting at the postdoc and graduate student levels in the Department of Neurobiology at UMass Chan in wonderful new facilities. Come join us!

Oooo I found my people! Thanks @pkpd-babe.bsky.social for creating this starter pack! go.bsky.app/Kd6i5Au

If you are looking for feeds to follow I HIGHLY recommend the Science feed. Everyone who posts to it is vetted to ensure they are actual scientists and science communicators to prevent misinformation and pseudoscience from being posted. It's a great place to learn and interact with science!

I feel like this is more a curse for the people forced to be around them than for the enemy themselves. 😢 “May their best friend/partner smell of old garlic” may be a stronger curse (or is it too strong to be “small” lol)

I'm a Gen Z scientist in my 8th year of my PhD. I've been using Microsoft Excel for years. Every few months when I need to do some data analysis, I have to google how to freeze the top row in my spreadsheet.

I made a starter pack for neuroscience folks but I just saw that it’s capped at 150 people. Sorry if I missed anyone! Maybe #neuroscience folks should start making subfield starter packs? 🧪 go.bsky.app/Q69XurQ

Hi #SciSky! 🧪 (is there a #NeuroSky yet? I just started here and saw biorxiv had posted our preprint 7 months ago, so I thought I’d update this with the published version as my self-introduction :) We do mice, alpha-synuclein, and prions. Nice to meet everyone! journals.plos.org/plospathogen...

Realized today there was a time (circa 2016-2020?) when #ScienceTwitter was an amazing resource for career advice. Long threads re: “how to apply for grad school”, “what to expect in a chalk talk”, and other highlights from the hidden curriculum. A practice to revive as we settle in new places?

🚨 Tenure-track jobs at NYU Biology!! We're going to hire two new assistant professors working in ecological and evolutionary genetics and genomics. Live and work in Greenwich Village, with friendly colleagues invested in your success. Apply! apply.interfolio.com/155792

Starter packs are great. Just a reminder that if you’re creating a pack that could be used to identify marginalized people, get their permission first. I.e., a well-intentioned “great trans scientists” list could lead to undesired risk I haven’t heard of this happening yet, just thinking ahead
