Stories like this jar with robotic, risible pronouncements from PM, & Govt. If all’s well, why are so many leaving home, one of the hardest things anyone will ever do? | ‘Hollowing out’: New Zealand grapples with an uncertain future as record numbers leave www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

I hope everyone who voted for a minuscule tax cut over a thriving public service is really enjoying their choices right now www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

Bubble tea giving me a fun little flashback to thirteen years of daily RE

Worth your consideration…🤨 #OneTermGovernment #nzpol #ToitūTeTiriti #TangataTiriti

National is obviously very spooked—they just posted a long post on X justifying the changes to the Equal Pay Act. I think they realise they screwed up.

There was a care worker on RNZ saying that people had been saying to her that her job was "easy" and that is why she is "paid less", but this doesn't make any sense at all, surely if the work was so easy men would be doing it in droves #NZPol

These are the pay equity claims that the government wiped out in just two days to make its budget balance. It's appalling that tax breaks for tobacco companies are being funded by cutting women's pay rises and backpay. (Also listed in alt text)

Code Club News (1/2): - discovered my "boss" isn't who I thought it was - had surprise meeting with my "boss" - some of my groups have had student numbers reduced (in one case, 50%), as per their instructions - my "supervisor" is just a go-to person for checking in / adding students ...

WINZ sends me an annual form to confirm my circumstances, which I have to complete and snail mail back at my own cost. I completed the last one with 3 weeks before deadline. WINZ just said they haven't received the form and have cut my disability allowance. Fuck you, WINZ.

You know you fucked up as a Right Wing Govt if even the NZ Herald calls you out.

Calm afternoon reading in the shade by the beach Anxiety Attack night before bed because of worry about the chaos that would be my Y6 Code club

My dedicated friend, who works as a mediator, popped in this evening. She's two or three years deep in a pay equity claim with one group. The news that it was all meaningless came through while they were actually meeting today.

Fuck this Government, they have truly screwed up.

In case you weren’t already angry about this

In a world that tried to silence them, they built something louder than fear: hope. 💔➡️💡 Rule Breakers tells the true story of the girls who dared to dream in the face of danger. Watch the trailer. #RuleBreakers #AfghanDreamers #HopeIsPower geekerynz.blogspot.com/2025/05/rule...

A relaxed day though with a mixed power/casual walk through a local reserve. A walkway was closed off by construction but cones and signs had been placed such that they were ambiguous or part blocked the open walkways, fixed it. Saw the newer terraced housing in the area, fantastic

@catherinejmckenzie.bsky.social music for your Sunday From a new album I just got La Tercera Vision (Third Sight) - Lagartijeando youtu.be/6RLFelou5mM?...

Latest on KingsWay. Jacob Stephenson, who has cerebral palsy, describes one of his many concerns with what he experienced at the school.

A new workshop space in Wellington aims to encourage more women and gender diverse people to learn how to build, fix and make things. The Cahoots Workshop is a traditional makerspace - like a MENZSHED - but it is only open to women and gender diverse people. #nzpol

Health minister Simeon Brown thinks outsourcing public health services to the private sector will fix NZ’s ailing health sector, but it will break it even further This message from high-ranking doctors, economists & health policy experts in two separate editorials published in the NZMJ #NZPol

The Crown wants to review the Waitangi Tribunal, a body set up by the Crown to investigate breaches of the treaty by the Crown to make non-binding recommendations to the Crown that the Crown can (and mainly does) legally ignore. Why is it being described as ‘activist?’

Fun fact: I once had a principal called Mr Wolfe. He once put a student in Detention for asking him the time, no joke. At Assemblies, both students and parents placed bets on how long his speeches would be. I think the record was over 23 minutes.

Exactly this. The endless headlines and articles insidiously questioning competence or decorum or leadership skills or anything else stems from white supremacy culture, which is symbiotic with misogyny. We say we want representation yet refuse to reflect on the demonstrable behaviour preventing it.

#NZ #NewZealand Has anyone experienced shortages with prescribed medications? I've heard of ADHD med shortages, but some Antidepressants are in short supply now, too? I'm affected (venlafaxine)

TL;DR: David Seymour hates things not white, male and privileged.

Wellington, we have more weather updates for you. We will be experiencing road closures at the following locations for clean up operations: Fulton Hogan will focus on arterial roads first, Owhiro Bay Parade and The Esplanade, then Moa Point / Breaker Bay.
