It really is great (terrible) to see the philosophical underpinnings of Lochner so alive and so very well. The idea that freedom minimizes coercion is the purposeful, self-serving blindness that had the Supreme Court striking down minimum wage and child labor laws for decades.

absolute worst case for a speedrunner: found tech that I don't understand and cannot reproduce consistently. I know it's possible but don't know how to do it

i've submitted contradiction: spot the liar any% to A Thing so I'm doing some derust at www.twitch.tv/ratamero

GerBI is offering 3 travel grants for the OME2025 meeting at MBL, Woods Hole, US (28.4.-1.5.2025) – an amazing opportunity for networking and knowledge sharing on #RDM! Grants cover registration, travel, and accommodation. Open to GerBI members presenting at the conference. Any questions? Reach out!

The OME Community Meeting, which has always be in Europe, will be at MBL this year! It's a unique opportunity for people this side of the pond who are working with open-source microscopy data. Travel grants available for NA-based folks until Feb 12th! www.bioimagingnorthamerica.org/events/ome-2...

Should I be worried that the website where I check the case status of my green card application is alternating between "fully offline" and "the 'check status' button is disabled"? I probably should

Wonderful to have the perspectives of the international repositories as we drive toward the standardization of (large) bioimaging data! We're closer than ever to having petabytes of analysis-ready cloud-optimized images for all! 🦾 @openmicroscopy.org @zarr.dev 🚀

10 years ago this week, I started work on Tunic. The game wouldn't have been the success it was without LGBTQ+ folks, both devs and players. So, I'm matching donations to Trans Lifeline. If you can spare $5 (or more!) reply with your donation and I'll X2 it. Thank you! 💕 give.translifeline.org

Won't be able to make it to Austria for $ reasons, but if you teach image analysis and Python you should be there!

I've finally finished Metaphor and it's genuinely impressive how Atlus took the Persona formula, improved a bunch of small things, and then proceeded to fumble every big thing in spectacular fashion

And now, support for Zarr v3 & sharding is released as an OME-Zarr specification! 🎉 forum.image.sc/t/ngff-0-5-r... #NGFF #BioImaging #Formats @openmicroscopy.org @zarr.dev

Happy #FluorescenceFriday! We're so excited to be co-hosting #GBIxBINA2025 with @globalbioimaging.bsky.social, in beautiful Montreal on Oct 6-10, 2025! 🍁 Need Financial Assistance? 📅Apply by March 5, 2025! Details & application links @ www.bioimagingnorthamerica.org/events/gbixb...

I don't know how much clearer it needs to be for any pro-"AI" academics than the collusion of government and tech giants announcing $500b in funding for "AI to cure cancer" while simultaneously preparing to gut the NIH: you are digging your own grave.

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

Study sections are the review panels that allocate NIH research grants. They bring in experts from around the country and have to be scheduled many months in advance; they provide the funds that keep the nation's biomedical research going. It's hard to overstate the disruption this causes.

The Image & Optics Facility @ Institute of Science and Technology Austria is expanding it’s image analysis services and has a vacant position for a service oriented *Image Analysis Specialist* with a strong interest for data infrastructure organization🔬🧑‍💻📈 - sharing is much appreciated!

this assertion may be predictable considering its source, but i feel strongly about this: we have a social imperative, nay an emotional imperative, nay a SPIRITUAL imperative, to all watch the stupidest possible movie together ASAP tomorrow night at 7:30PM EST twitch.tv/trashnightvideo

I love the idea of a separate "GDQ Infinite" channel so I am putting this out there. I bet with GDQ's permission this would be _extremely_ doable

I was at AGDQ last week and it made me think about how useless it is to think about 'gamer culture' as a monolith. erick.ratamero.com/posts/2025-0...

Celebrity deaths never really affect me but David Lynch, man. Devastated.

Internet Archive really came through with this one

Back into work mode. First task of the day was HIPAA training any% (no video skip)

As I sit here, at AGDQ 2025 in person (!!!!), I just realized it's been 3 years to the day since I submitted my first speedrun ever to SRC. Happy birthday, speedrunning me. www.speedrun.com/tux_and_fann...

Went 4-2 in the massive AGDQ PS1 mystery tournament - exactly 100 entrants! Lost to Brossentia in losers bracket quarterfinals. That included a Guilty Gear win, @tietuesday.bsky.social would be proud

I have somehow survived the whole Awful Block at AGDQ, slept for 2 hours, and got up for Kusogrande quarterfinals. First one is some kind of Donkey Kong bootleg for DOS.

Ok this is the first time this week that it is ACTUALLY very cold in Pittsburgh. All those warnings from AGDQ locals are finally warranted.

It's such a small thing, but the fact that every room in the hotel gets a AGDQ stream as a regular channel on their tv is SO nice. Makes it easy to know what's going on at the main stage at all times.
