Credits on Blue Prince. Probably on the smallest sliver of the Internet: it's not the best game in the last decade, but it's really good. The small puzzles are whatever, the big puzzles are great, the roguelike part is ok-but-not-fantastic.

you know what's really cool? stargazing. stargazing is a certified good time. love to look at the very large things in the distance that seem tiny and see them slightly less tiny. it's so dang cool.

I'll be at the @gamesdonequick.com channel THIS TUESDAY (April 8th) 8PM Eastern, for my very first speedrun for an audience! I'll be running Contradiction: Spot the Liar, an FMV murder mystery adventure game that is a gem - some delightfully over-the-top acting. www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick

Delighted to announce that @erinweisbart.bsky.social and I have teamed up to create a new bioimage analysis video podcast called Ask Erin/Dear Beth - you can check it out at the link below! It will highlight common challenges in #bioimageanalysis, as well as our favorite solutions to them. (1/x)

I'm doing my first speedrun for an audience on Tuesday, so today I'm doing some final prep/practice at www.twitch.tv/ratamero

If you literally copy-paste an LLM output as an issue in a library I maintain without spending 5 seconds to check it for the most basic stuff possible first, I feel like I should be allowed to waste 5 minutes of your life as well

More people need to understand the massive negative externalities - and huge bloody bills - imposed on the entire world wide web by LLMs. The sense of entitlement to other people's labour and other organisations's hugely increased monthly overheads of the tech bros is nothing short of depraved.

💻 Announcing the Boston Bioimage Analysis Course — BoBiAC! Join us this July at Harvard Medical School in Boston for a 6-day deep dive into bioimage analysis with Python, hosted by the IAC and CITE. Apply by May 16th, 2025!

How long until we look at the "making it look like people recording a podcast" ad aesthetic and think it's laughable? I give it 3 years tops.

staying sane is proving pretty challenging these days, so I've been going deeper and deeper into my personal rabbit holes. Which means somehow I already have my SGDQ submissions ready by today, when submissions are finally open. Now I wait to see if anything gets accepted...

Shoutouts to dnSpy, making speedruns possible since about an hour ago when I discovered it exists

Registration deadline is coming up FAST - you have until April 7th!

Alright, time to dodge all spoilers and watch the F1 race. The only word I caught from the corner of my eye was "chaos", so looking forward to it.

🚀 We’re very excited to share our latest preprint on OME-Zarr! 🚀 Our report on the 2024 OME-NGFF Workflows Hackathon is a deep dive into the status of OME-Zarr and the great work that happened last November at the BioVisionCenter in Zurich. 🔗 Read the preprint: osf.io/preprints/bi... 🧵 (1/15)

Some of the funniest people on the internet streaming for a great (and momentous) cause. Cannot recommend enough!

I'd guess about 75% of the people working in research in the US who are not tied to this country for personal reasons are looking at the door right now, if not taking active steps to leave. That's good, right?

it's Sunday morning and the world is a mess, so I'm gonna try to beat my personal best at Contradiction: Spot the Liar any%. www.twitch.tv/ratamero

happy international women's day to trans women in particular

The more I see research in the US crumbling in real time, the more I am convinced of the idea of public data repositories as standards, not infrastructure. Federated, decentralized data will always be more resilient, and we might be at a point where we can't consider national infrastructures safe.

Ever wondered if you could access large bioimaging data via a browser on your mobile? The #OME-NGFF specification of a cloud-ready file format for large N-dimensional arrays makes it possible! Watch this demonstration⏬ - loading a 221 GB dataset from the OME-NGFF challenge on a smartphone! 😍

not my home, but I know my way around

Importantly (and something The Times deliberately misleads with the headline), young women still earn less than men for the same job. They are just higher-achieving and getting better jobs than men. The gender pay gap has not disappeared magically. (it is also not a crisis by any stretch.)

This the most excited I've been for a meeting maybe ever. Amazing list of speakers, amazing list of organizers, in an incredible location (that I've never been to!). I'm counting down the days and hoping to see many of you there!

It sucks that it feels like multiple times a year you need to uproot a part of your digital existence because another for-profit entity decided line must go up faster. So yeah, I spent an hour yesterday migrating to LibreWolf.

It really is great (terrible) to see the philosophical underpinnings of Lochner so alive and so very well. The idea that freedom minimizes coercion is the purposeful, self-serving blindness that had the Supreme Court striking down minimum wage and child labor laws for decades.

absolute worst case for a speedrunner: found tech that I don't understand and cannot reproduce consistently. I know it's possible but don't know how to do it

i've submitted contradiction: spot the liar any% to A Thing so I'm doing some derust at www.twitch.tv/ratamero
