In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

💥The Netherlands' largest pension fund, has sold its shares in Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet (Google). The fund with US $569 billion equivolent in assets is "directing more money to companies and projects that help to improve society and the environment." #Divest www.reuters.com/markets/euro...

Fun fact: As Republicans prepare to cut the entire budget of Medicaid, millions will lose health care, but also 5.6 million live in custodial care or have assisted living paid by Medicaid. 5.6 million with no $ & no one to care for them. That's not cost cutting, that's genocide.

Fictional villains: my motivation involves a complex backstory around lost love and a deep yearning to be understood Real life villains: being cruel makes me feel like a big strong man

Imagine being rich enough to do anything you want and choosing to take food and medicine from starving children to give yourself even more money.

Imagine you have over $400 billion and you spend your time working to deny hungry children around the world meals to avoid starvation.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

A picture tells 1000 words

Old enough to remember when I didn’t have access to mood stabilizers & resorted to self medicating. Mental illness & addiction aren’t fun to live through. And neither is the stigma that comes with them. This is an attack on me & the millions like me who have stability bc these sorts of meds.

Most Americans still have no idea about how F'd this country is about to get. I think if they knew it would be too overwhelming to process so they prefer maintaining the delusion, "It won't be that bad." It'll be very bad, folks. Hold on to your butts.

these cabinet announcements are like an advent calendar counting down to the apocalypse

It’s fun starting a new hobby with ADHD because I never know if I’ve found a new lifelong passion or if I’m going to spend $2000 on stuff and immediately lose all interest

it is genuinely incredible that all you have to do is scratch the surface and it becomes clear that each of these guys is a huge piece of shit

Microsoft's own research confirms something that was already pretty obvious: relying on a text generating machine to come up with answers erodes critical thinking, and is a method favoured by those who never liked doing critical thinking in the first place advait.org/files/lee_20...

NIH doesn’t just support infectious disease research—it drives breakthroughs in cancer, childhood diseases, heart disease, diabetes & more. Thanks to NIH, we have: 💉 Cancer immunotherapy ❤️ Cholesterol-lowering statins 🩸 Insulin for diabetes Investing in NIH = investing in life-saving discoveries.

Under fascism, no one is safe. Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc. Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations. Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

Weak men cannot compromise. Weak men cannot build consensus. Weak men think that leadership means force. Weak men build nothing that lasts.

Starting a Parks & Rec rewatch to spend some time with goodhearted public servants

"would you please put that in writing" is how you pull off insubordination without actually being insubordinate. Very useful when you are getting sketchy (whatever 'sketchy' might mean) instructions from someone who might not want to take responsibility for it later. signed, a former union steward.

We are in the midst of an administrative coup the like of which we have never seen - or even imagined - in our lifetimes. Every day brings new abuses, new scandals, which can’t just be undone or fixed. We are in a very dark place as a country and as a constitutional republic right now.

if the president’s lackeys can functionally seize control of treasury funds and dismantle a congressionally-created agency without consequence, it’s not that it’s a constitutional crisis as much as it means the constitution is vapor.

aaaand now it all makes sense

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

No Chuck, I'm worried about the fact that a deranged, unelected, drugged-up fascist billionaire has taken control of the federal government's payment systems and sensitive data and you're here talking about tomato prices.

I hear this, I really do. But Democrats can make the lives of every Republican in both chambers a living hell until they break. I would like to see John Thune cry on national television. I would like Mike Johnson to beg for mercy. I want every minute of power to be like nails on a chalkboard.

Well, it was going to come to this in the end. Would America evolve from its white supremacy and finally become the country it pretended to be or would it self-destruct? A plurality chose the latter, and we're going to see it play out in our lives.

At. Gunpoint. Musk is telling duly appointed and security cleared government officials that they will be shot if they don't turn over to Musk sensitive information to which he has no right. In any other country, we'd call it a coup.

I'm glad that America is doing real classic end of empire stuff. A king who is visibly losing his mind declaring a war based on a dream he had. Greedy courtiers feuding over access to the treasury. Some looks are timeless.

Easy to think here that we're all overwhelmed by the news & aware of much of it. As a professor, though, I get to talk to large groups of educated, lib/left young people, *majority* of whom have only the barest awareness of what's happening. So talk to your IRL friends. You'll be surprised.

I want to spell out the basic reason it’s so dangerous for Elon to have control of the U.S. payments system. It may seem like a technical matter, but the dynamics are simple. 1/x

this is theft on an unimaginable scale

Everyone realizes they’re trying to shift the Overton Window, right? They’re conditioning you to be accepting of the insane shit they’re doing now so you’ll accept the more insane shit they do later.

What the US is experiencing right now is fascism. There's no other word for it and pretending that it's verboten to say so diminishes the truth as much as they are diminishing the truth. It's fascism. It's arrived.

I really don’t think it’s happenstance that pretty much every remaining institutional safeguard broke down within 15 years of Citizens United

This is exactly why we all need to support independent media.

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

Boy, these last eight days feel like a good reminder why democracies generally avoid letting people who attempt a coup come back to power….

Dems can: -oppose all Trump nominees until this EO is withdrawn -deny unanimous consent to slow senate proceedings -vote no on all cloture -force quorum calls at every chance It’s a constitutional crisis. There is absolutely no reason the Senate should be connecting business as usual.

"Live to see them die" is one hell of a slogan

New leadership is necessary for this era.

Why do people who seem otherwise intelligent and competent keep suggesting GenerativeAI as a solution to problems that require accurate information when the one thing it can’t deliver is…accurate information?

Can’t stop reading this paragraph over and over. open.substack.com/pub/newmeans...

The central core of Trumpism is voter suppression and election subversion. Too many people only pay attention to this right before elections and forget it once elections are over. We must take this threat literally and seriously if we want to have free and fair elections in the future.

It’s on. #boycotttarget

Who made this 🤣

Do not obey in advance

The richest man in the world being a Nazi and at the right hand of the fascist President is maybe the most potent lesson in the evils of capitalism and the lengths that the ruling class will go to hoard their wealth and keep their power.

This isn’t a “seems like” or “appears to be” event… It was intentional, deliberate, and unequivocal.
