Basically nobody wants Trump to be a king. Whether that matters we’ll see.

I totally thought these were the same company, and that the tough dad tools were why people liked the cups, because they were durable like the tools. Anyway, I am on my 3rd Nalgene in ~23 years, so idk

New JWST data dropped today, so here's my processed image!! 🔭 This is the NGC-3147 galaxy, located 130 million light years away, seen by NIRCam. That spiral form is so satisfying to see! HD: flic.kr/p/2qNkvdo

this is such a great idea 👇👇👇

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

This is worth a read for a few reasons, including a fact I never knew about Stevie Nicks!

A new book about the search for extraterrestrial intelligence during the Cold War reminds us that the history of this esoteric quest is bound up with some of the most profound questions faced by inhabitants of Earth.

Agree with this one zillion percent Everything that has made US airline travel the SAFEST TRANSPORT IN HUMAN HISTORY is the opposite of what Musk stands for, and does Move fast and break things? 'Rapid unscheduled disassembly'? 'FSD' Teslas killing people? XItter? YOU DO NOT WANT this at FAA

Honestly, we didn’t really need to check with Phil this year.

Guys, I pointed the #seestar at Venus and, um, it's a crescent. We may need to rethink this whole geocentric Universe idea

longevity isn't really about—shouldn't be about—making 90 year olds live to 120. it's not about experimental treatments for the rich. it's not about supplements. it's about deploying medicine—antiretrovirals, vaccines, stuff that we know works—so people do not die young. slate.com/technology/2...

Earth, climate, and planetary scientists: If you have an expected upcoming NASA/NSF/NOAA/DOE grant payment in the next couple weeks that, if not received, will have a real impact on your lab and staff, please let us know about it @science.org. You can reach me at [email protected].

On the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, I wrote about the cultural significance of this unique place. 🧪🏺

As early as tomorrow, a SpaceX rocket could launch *2* separate lunar landers. This is a big deal. We are changing the Moon, and our relationship to it, forever. I wrote about these missions for @nytopinion.nytimes.com last year, and it’s as relevant as ever. www.nytimes.com/2024/01/21/o...

Friends, this GoFundMe is, unfortunately, legit. Can’t talk about it now, but I’m sure posts about the absurdity of life are to come. Please share if you can. #EatonFire

My take on Artemis: It's the only post-Apollo moon strategy that has survived because it has a *politically durable* architecture and coalition. Is it the optimal engineering solution? Many have argued no. But getting Congress + commercial + international partners aligned is no small thing.

“What a miracle to get to look at each other and say, I’m here. I’m here. Here we are together.” If you read one thing today, let it be this. (Also, congratulations, @petridishes.bsky.social )

I love this poster, damn shame it isn't more widely posted

I have this sneaking suspicion we’re all going to want real stuff we know is real stuff real soon. Here’s my guarantee - everything I make will be real stuff.

As I have just started reading @rboyle31.bsky.social's book about the #moon, I thought I had to snap that nice waxing crescent moon, with earthshine and Venus above

Really loved "Our Moon" - a sweeping history of geological formations, evolution of life, and the history of science. For all the urban plans oriented along cardinal directions, this book explains humanity's repeat cultural homage to our place within the cosmos. Thank you, @rboyle31.bsky.social

There will be good things sometimes

A geomagnetic storm could make the northern lights visible across the northern fringe of the U.S. on New Year’s Eve, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Another geomagnetic storm could make the lights visible again after sundown on New Year’s Day.

Here comes the Sun - On the 24th December 2024, at 11:53 GMT (10:53pm AEDT) (6:53am ET), NASA’s Parker Solar Probe will fly 6.1 million kilometres above the Sun’s surface, travelling at 692,000km/hr. Follow its journey at: science.nasa.gov/mission/parker-solar-probe
