1,155 today. Played some Deadlock with friends in the usual writing time. I stopped right before the trouble intensifies.

2,079 today. This took a bit longer than usual because I was watching Maid Mint Fantome play through the end of MGS4, which is full of cutscenes that I don't get to see often because it's a PS3 game and hasn't been put into any collections yet.

1,897 words today. I've crossed the 50k word count on this one. It's a great feeling. I've got a way better understanding of where this story is, now that I'm on the second draft. Next big milestone is 65k, where I surpass the number of words in the fragmentary first draft.

"Comply or be punished!" They're going to punish you anyway. All they want is for you to comply, so don't give them what they want. This isn't an honorable fight, their word is worth nothing, they're not going to NOT punish you because you complied. Don't comply.

This was a fantastic dinner, it will fill you right up.

Just saw I'm Still Here, dir: Walter Salles. It was a beautiful film, concerned with the everyday existence of a family whose father was abducted by state police. Absolutely recommended. I cried at some parts and it was intense in a different way than usual.

1,815 words today. I didn't want to write when I sat down today. It felt like I was pulling teeth until about halfway through when the scene came together. I'm excited because I'll have written 50,000 words within two months once I write 200 more words on Saturday.

499 words today. Less than I wanted, but relaxing is required on days off at some point. Have a great evening everyone!

Finished Back Up Back Down in MGSV today. Got an alert, but that's what happens when you're slinging rocket launchers. That'll be a good mission to go back to when I need to farm cash later in the game, when I have a better launcher weapon.

1,351 words today. All of the viewpoint characters are in the same city now. Three chapters until the really mean stuff starts.

@meganachterhof.bsky.social Happy birthday!

1,931 words today. Here is an escalation. Ransom and future jailbreaks. Now I need to come up with a game for a group of four to play, in a break before things really pop off.

the discourse on whether the economy is actually good or bad is ridiculous to me bc even if you showed me a graph that somehow conclusively proved the economy was Good i could still walk through my city and see people living in tents on the side of the road and in every public park

When I'm writing a new novel, I make a game to go with it. I might not finish the game, or ever publish it, but it's there to give me a second perspective easily. I didn't make a game for the first (unpublishable?) novel I finished, but #2 had a card and strategy game, and the current one is an RPG.

1,508 words today! My outlines have a lot about meetings, which I can go into at any point, but I'm keeping the bureaucracy light as I'm pretty sure people won't be quite as interested in that as the intrigues.

Most of today's Phantom Pain shenanigans were going about and stealing resources and people. I didn't want to start the upcoming missions with just the base rocket launcher, so I'll be starting it next time. Going around with all lethal gear and only a suppressor on my rifle has been dangerous.

2,071 today. This is the Chapter That Feels Most Likely to be Cut, but the things said here have to be elsewhere if they're not here, and I'm not sure I like that.

1,942 words today. Getting a little quicker as I'm getting a good feeling for these characters now. I was going to put a story in a story but I couldn't decide on what story I wanted that to be, so I'm going to make a spectacle instead. That's the plan for tomorrow.

Sometimes I'll just make thumbnail graphics for YouTube videos that don't exist.

just want to remind all the younger folks who have been convinced to attack "porn", y'all were not immune to propaganda the war on porn will corrode your rights after it erases queer people

watch out for this! for folks who don't know: - windows+R opens the run window which lets you run any program - ctrl+V pastes so this puts some malicious command on your clipboard, then convinces you to run it yourself. don't.

2,299 words today. The funny part about higher word count days like this are that I consistently feel like I'm struggling to write even six hundred words. I understand that this has to do with my Scrivener outline, which is arranged so that each 'scene' starts a new count.

I'm homebrewing an RPG for my home games. I always try to make a game when I'm writing a novel. It's a way to build familiarity with the story I'm telling.

2,065 words today. I'm already making notes for my next revision.

Jerry Lawson invented the video game cartridge. He's the reason they stopped making pong consoles in the 1970s. If it weren't for him, the Atari 2600 and many others would literally NEVER exist at all.

Authors, if you see this, post the first line of your book. "Bruno Mills broke the fastest death record in his battle against Julian Negrete; he died three seconds in." (Titan of Winter)

1,548 today. Less than I like but I have a buffer. It's always fun when you see a draft shaping up and know that it's going to be past your goal wordcount. I've always found slimming down in edits easier than adding new parts.

One of the things I think grognards misunderstand about safety tools in #TTRPG is that they're not there to ruin the vibe or story or prevent tables from exploring mature or extreme content. They're there to help set the vibe without people inadvertently messing someone's day up. 1/4

All right y’all, so here’s the deal. We’re struggling. Our monthly goal is to sell 1500 books. This month, we’ve sold less than 400. We need your help. We HAVE to sell 1500 books by the end of Feb to keep our doors open. This was supposed to be a video, but Bluesky can't do 2 mins of video(Thread)

Next library book is Gravity's Rainbow, which I have wanted to read since high school, but never got around to.

Finished The Haunting of Hill House. That is so good. Absolutely worth the library wait time if you're a fool like me and try to get on the list in October.

Making art is so embarrassing. Oh, you had a feeling and wanted to express it? You tapped into the divine creative stream and let it flow through you? Grow up, dude.
