Some different looking #NLwx ahead for the island this week with two thaws on the way. First one (Wed) looking primarily for central, south, and east, while the second one (Fri) looking stronger and more widespread. Expect notable snow loss as we close out February.

Snowfall totals from yesterday's storm highlight the highest amounts over the eastern Avalon Peninsula, with a sharp dropoff to the west. As for winds, peak gusts included: 114 km/h (Cape Race); 100 km/h (Calvert); 92 km/h (Cape Pine); 85 km/h (Grates Cove); 81 km/h (St. John's #YYT). #nlwx

5pm satellite imagery as the low makes its closest pass to the island, centered about 185 km SE of Cape Race. Will quickly depart out-to-sea tonight. #nlwx

Low about 650 km south of Yarmouth as of 3:30 pm NST and tracking over an area not particularly rich with data. Looking set to bring a period of snow, wind, and blowing snow to the Avalon Peninsula tomorrow – but uncertainty remains around exactly how much! #nlwx

Just a bit of model discrepancy around how much precipitation southeastern Labrador sees between Monday night and Wednesday morning (as well as what type, with temperatures largely between -2°C and +2°C). meteologix.com/ca/forecast/...

Mild sector, featuring marine air, enveloped coastal Labrador and the GNP today, with above-freezing highs from Hopedale to Englee. Also pushed into Lake Melville as far as Northwest River (0.4°C), but not quite HVGB (-3.3°C). Preceding the backdoor warm front, many saw significant snowfall. #nlwx

Another day with numerous stations topping out over 100 km/h across southern and eastern Newfoundland. Will remain gusty tonight but it appears winds have reached their peaks for most locations. #nlwx

Port aux Basques "only" gusting to 99 km/h at 3:30 pm, after 12 consecutive hourly observations with gusts to 100+ (including 3 observations with SUSTAINED winds 100+). Intrahourly peak gust was 131 km/h at 11:51 am, while max sustained was 110 km/h at 9:30 am. weather.gc.ca/past_conditi... #nlwx

Windy Valentine's Day on the island. Peak early this morning of 167 km/h at #Wreckhouse marked the highest gust at the location since Sep 24, 2022 (when Post Tropical Storm Fiona brought gusts to 177 km/h). #nlwx

Lots of cancellations on the board at St. John's Airport. Snowfall 36 cm through 6:30 am at #YYT; peak wind thus far 104 km/h. Stronger gusts overnight on the southern Avalon, incl 135 km/h at Cape Pine and 126 km/h at Cape Race. #nlwx

St. John's #YYT closing its Feb 9th climate day (which ends at 2:30 am NST Feb 10) with 19.6 cm of snow for the date. This is the highest calendar-day total since Mar 8, 2024. Still more storm to go! #nlwx

12z models show decent clustering of pcpn amounts for incoming storm. Cdn guidance slightly slower than foreign but been trending up. Could have to multiply by up to 1.5x to get snow in cm for Clarenville, but closer to 1.0 under the dendrite smashing winds at St. John's. #nlwx

Cold Thursday morning on much of the island; Gander #YQX minimum -16.6°C marks lowest reading since Jan 31, 2024. Lows in the -20s in some of the typical colder spots. #nlwx

Almost the end of January, but finally the first 'decent' snowfall of the season for central and eastern parts of the island. Snow-to-liquid ratios of 15 to 20+ to 1 certainly helped to give the accumulations an extra boost in Central! #nlwx

Picked up another 5.5 cm since 7am, bringing #GanderWest snowfall to 23 cm thru 1:30 pm. Water equivalent 14.8 mm. Still snowing lightly. Will post numbers from around the region later this afternoon. #nlwx

Snowfall 17.5 cm through 7AM marks the largest entry in CoCoRaHS CAN-NL-82 (#GanderWest) so far this season. Quite fluffy with water equivalent just 11.9 mm (15:1 SLR). Still snowing, so final total will be higher. #nlwx
