"I trust to luck and do nothing but work, hoping that all will end well." Today has been her birthday.

Musical Theatre Song of the Day, Day 161: On this day history, Ronald Reagan famously demanded a certain wall come down. The initial response was...not enthusiastic. Why We Build the Wall - Hadestown www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1VD...

Today’s @askamanager.org features the greatest first comment response to an “ask the readers” prompt ever. www.askamanager.org/2025/06/lets...

I can’t be sure, but I think @ponder719.bsky.social might be excited about this.

two years ago today I encountered this all-timer of marquee placement at the movie theater:

Musical Theatre Song of the Day, Day 160: On this day in history, the Continental Congress appointed a committee to draft the Declaration of Independence. It probably didn't go exactly like this, but it should've. But, Mr. Adams - 1776 www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVuP...

For years, I've long said that climate.gov's team of remarkable communicators (& their amazing blogs, which were accessible but did not "dumb down" the science!) was NOAA's best (& most cost effective!) public-facing extreme #weather / #climate education effort to date. This will be a huge loss.

Here, I made a helpful graph to assist with “Cities are where very, very large numbers of Americans live” discourse, with real Census data and everything.

The way we describe events affects how our audience processes them. Thinking of disparity between the Walker v City of Birmingham majority opinion’s statement of the facts and Justice Brennan’s dissent. Majority: “Violence occurred. Members of the crowd threw rocks that injured a newspaperman” 1/

one reason for this is how few US newsrooms are willing to interview and hire immigrant and international journalists due to legal costs for work visas, and how often non-white immigrant perspectives are considered 'bias' instead of expertise

Oh God no.

Although the Houston ICE arrestee is described in the story as part of the Afghan army, his attorney identifies him as a veteran of the Kandahar Strike Force—aka the QSF or NDS-03, the CIA’s Afghan surrogate force in Kandahar. Here’s a 2021 story of mine about NDS-03’s very difficult escape:

AIDS Memorial Quilt on display October 11-13 1996 on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Let us never forget.

Extraordinarily difficult to listen to. My translation: "Help me Help me Help me BRAYAN Ay, no Help me Help Help Ay, no [In the background, a sound like a child shouting back to him. I make out what could be the word "papa" but I can’t tell if it’s just pareidolia] Help Help Help Help me Help me"

I’ve been wearing a rainbow bracelet the last couple days for Pride Month and yesterday two people commented on it in a way that made me feel like I was secretly in this video, it’s really lovely youtu.be/UVepoXddTW4?... 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The award was created partially in response to Faith, a civilian cat who looked after St Augustine & St Faith, next to St Paul’s. In late Aug 1940 she had a kitten, Panda. On 6 Sept 1940 she demanded the Vicar open the basement door. He did & found she disappeared. He missed them.

I remember a teacher in Hebrew school telling us we should call ourselves American Jews rather than Jewish-American, to put the emphasis on the Jewish part. I wasn't able to articulate it then, but I'm pretty sure that's the moment I started drifting away from organized practice.

In other disaster-related news, today marks 45 years since publication of the @science.org article by Walter & Luis Alvarez, Frank Asaro, & Helen Michel arguing that the dinosaurs were killed off by the impact of a massive asteroid or comet: www.lindahall.org/about/news/s... #HistSci 🔭 🧪

Anyone who thinks winning Musk over to their side is the play right now needs to take a good hard look at those stats.

It is a truth universally and frustratingly acknowledged by every fundraiser that dire peril is good for donations.

This is fun!

Irony is the 311 app asking you to identify the cars in the captcha when reporting a vehicle parked in the bike lane

Well this couldn’t have come at a better time www.bbc.com/news/article...

The next Sharknado movie plot just dropped

I still think this is one of the most gutting notes I’ve ever read.

1. she's lying. it's to stifle activism and discourse as she cracks down on human rights advocates 2. this would be a great opportunity for @bsky.app to get more Africans on here. ahem ahem.

Well this is maybe the best thing to have happened to me in this neighborhood ever #SpreadLove

Hey, chat, is it good when a judge begins a ruling by extensively quoting "The Trial"?
