Just finished the latest episode and Severance and...I am not going to sleep very well tonight.

Doing some research for my next project and...guys, I have some bad news.

Rebel Ridge was fantastic! I'm not normally a crime/thriller fan, but the plot avoided the whole "wronged guy kills all who wronged him" trope really well.

The Gorge: A cool as hell concept, but a terribly lit movie. I'm watching this thing with a flashlight.

Incredible!

When your short story collection gets two rejections in a day:

Feeling fancy this afternoon.

When you're a writer and Google rubs it in.

Hey, folks. I'm trying to find a horror novel. I think it's indie? It's about a group of friends who go hiking, but one of them turns out to be an imposter? I think it came out last year. Any help?

Every single word must be written with intention. Every. Single. One.

Any writer who thinks using generative AI for "transitions" and other things that "don't matter" has a fundamental misunderstanding of both the art and craft of writing.

"Poem with No Speaker" by Frank Stanford.

Hexagon has been my most incredible creative venture thus far, but it’s time to say goodbye (for now). Read the full announcement of Hexagon’s hiatus on our website or Patreon. 🧡

Started binge watching Shogun on Hulu. It's fantastic! I can't believe I missed this one.

Disgusting and vile.

Aw, wow. David Lynch has left us. What a vision, what a powerhouse. I'll never forget his Twin Peaks, his Dune.

Look, man. I don't know what it means, but I don't need to. All I know is, this song and this video is gonna live rent free in my head for the next one hundred years. youtu.be/mRNtw_Tc1Jc?...

Writing tip: After you finish, go back & cut all the adverbs. Then all the adjectives. Then all the other words. Eat the paper. Now you're free.

A long video, but excellent. The biggest highlight? A clip from a news conference(?) where Ben Affleck said of AI: "It's a craftsman that knows how to work, but art is knowing when to stop." youtu.be/UoquS5uXOKs?...

By Hari Ren.

Some actual peer-reviewed research on student AI use in higher-ed. The results are more or less what I expected, but it's nice to see some data supporting what I and many others have seen these last few years. www.brianwstone.com/wp-content/u...

Rereading your first drafts be like...

Starting 2025 in an exciting place: I finished my work in progress yesterday, so I'm officially on sub! Next goal: getting my first book deal by December 31st. Let's do it!

Happy New Years, cadets. Keep those chins up. 2025 is gonna be a helluva ride.

Love stories with a good Hook

Make it, you cowards.

Have you ever sat in your darkened office staring at your work in progress for so long that, in your darkened office, your computer goes to sleep and all that's staring back at you -- in your darkened office -- is the black mirror of your own monitor reflecting your own face? Asking for a friend.

"The Seeker Prince," by Emil Bilalov.

I'm sure Corenswet's gonna do great as the new Superman, but he'll never hold a candle to the real one.

Writers after writing a whole-ass book and then remembering they have to write a whole-ass query letter for it now, too.

Writing is an act of rebellion. Writing is an act of creation. Writing is an act of salvation. Writing is an act of exploration. Writing is an act of emotion. Writing is an act of confession. Writing is an act of speculation. Writing is an act of reflection. Keep writing.

Another one I share whenever I see it.

1.2k new words today, with many more on the way. I love it when revisions come together, don't you? ✒️✒️✒️

Good lord, yes.

My friend @profklee.bsky.social sent me this today! Such an awesome anthology. If you're a fan of CNF, it's a must buy.

Writers after the first draft, second draft, third draft, fourth draft, editing, polishing, further editing, even more polishing, workshopping, agenting, even more editing, and and and and and and and and and and and and...

Become a writer(!) so your Google search history can look like this: 🔥 Do windows melt in a house fire? 🔥 Can cinderblocks melt in a house fire? 🔥 How hot do house fires get (in Fahrenheit)? 🔥 Can a house fire leave human remains?

The old "No house is cleaner than a writer's when writing" holds true, it seems. My house is spotless.

A wonderful article on the future of literature and writing in the age of AI. I think the author's thesis is perfect, and something I haven't seen much in anti-AI discourse. We need to do a better job of showing what the world would look like without them. www.plough.com/en/topics/co...

Pretty much, yeah 😔
