All these fake gamers crying about "woke" video games, because Witcher 4 and other recent announcements, acting like we've never had a female protagonist in a video game before. An entire genre started with Samus Aran and Metroid in the 80s, followed by Lara Croft and others in the 90s and beyond.

Springboarding off of this, wanted to share a little worldbuilding within my Superhero TTRPG. - Superheroes can either work for their respective governments or be "freelance". Freelancers have a little more operational freedom than government heroes, but no pay & don't have as many protections.

I know there's discourse when it comes to leveling in a #TTRPG, because it gamifies things too much or makes it too much like a video game, but in systems that revolve around, or mostly involve combat, I feel it makes sense from both a narrative & gameplay standpoint, especially in epic quest TTRPGs

For the Superhero TTRPG, I'm unsure if leveling up should provide a skill and/or augment from a branching ability tree at each level or if it should be tiered off by level ranges (to hopefully avoid being overpowered early), with point values to select what abilities and/or augments you "purchase"
