@checkbook.org Checkbook is a *treasure!* It is, by far, the most helpful, consumer focused, and fair resource for finding and researching local businesses. They are a little nonprofit that's been doing this for decades. Please subscribe, participate (questionnaires), and donate to support them!

BUY NOW, PAY LATER (EVEN AT COSTCO), WHAT COULD GO WRONG? My conversation with Paige Browning at Seattle's @kuow.org Radio about BNPL and how, if not used wisely, it can result in serious financial problems. bit.ly/4khx3MO

The protein #p53, known as the "guardian of the genome," plays a crucial role in preventing #cancer. When it malfunctions, tumors can form. Scientists are developing drugs to restore or mimic p53's function in cancer cells. A #biology researcher explains: 🧪 🩺 https://buff.ly/3EJ8Krw

on the one hand I want you all to follow @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social so she’ll stay here and leave Twitter for good. On the other hand this is the only time I’ve ever had more followers than her in any capacity and I want to savor this feeling because I know it’ll never happen again.

Bluesky doesn’t have to be bigger than Twitter to be successful. It just has to be inviting, engaging and big enough that people can find people and accounts they enjoy engaging with, and or following. Then People tell accounts and friends on other platforms to come here. It’s a SOCIAL network

There is no point in trolling if no one sees it. User control over our feeds is great. Including the ability to fully hide from everyone, unwanted replies, and block those people. If i hide a reply from a troll from everyone, no one sees it. Moderation is great Really helps engagement

It blows my mind that NASA is able to receive data from 4.67 billion miles away, but I lose Wi-Fi signal in my kitchen.

seeing how far along we have come thanks for this fucking awesome team is so cool. i joined the core team the week we dropped invite codes, and i remember us all thinking that was a massive wave. lol. lmao.

“ I’m a dude. He’s a dude. She’s a dude. Cause we’re all dudes ! “My son and I used to sing the song all the time. So when i had the chance for the cameo, I had to do it ! Good burger is a classic ! It’s fun to be social on a social network again

Politics 101: Recess Appointments

No hints, but privacy & natsec folks will want to check WIRED tonight around 11pm.

Now that I've fled Leon's site for bluer skies, I'm sure I'll be called an #Ex-X, but personally, I'll always consider myself a #TwitterQuitter.

WIRED has tracked thousands of US military & intel personnel coming & going from classified sites, incl. NSA hubs & nuclear vaults. We know where they sleep, what they eat, and which brothels they visit. It's an ocean of blackmail & national secrets within reach of every spy agency in the world.

Here’s the thing: I’m 100% happy to pay for a social media app. Every month. Roll out Bsky Blue tomorrow and I’m in. The problem with Twitter premium wasn’t the premium. The problem was that you would be giving money to manic, drug addled Bond villain.

Into my veins. Fork every one of these useful idiots. www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

what a day to be demoing the protocol live on stage!

I keep seeing this Trump where he says the Elon/Vivek vanity advisory committee will be “the Manhattan Project of its era” and I think it raises the question of what, exactly, Trump thinks the Manhattan Project did.

bluesky engineers: perhaps today it’ll be a little slower, we’ll catch our breath the internet: MORE!!

I saw this on the Other Place and thought for a moment they were actually telling people to come to #BSKY Talk about a self-own 🤣🤣🤣

Let me say something that is controversial because our brains are broken: Vaccines are a miracle and amazing

one thing bluesky does better than any other app i’ve ever used is drive conversation. why? because it _incentivizes_ conversation. not through algorithms or through some technological trick. but because the community itself thrives off of that conversation.

The thing about the chronological timeline is that if you have something you want to share, you have to share it a lot. And if you see something you think others should see, you have to hit repost (likes are not public).

It’s not just time to end robocalls, it’s time to give consumers back the power to pick who they want to communicate with and when. time.com/6513036/robo...

Connected cars are like smartphones on wheels. We are learning that they create real vulnerabilities for survivors of domestic violence. Because abusers can track them in their vehicles—wherever they go and whatever they do. We need to fix this. abcnews.go.com/amp/US/wireS...
