UPDATE: The Los Angeles Press Club has filed suit against the city of Los Angeles and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell in the Central District of California's federal courts over its actions toward journalists covering anti-ICE protests in recent days. /more

This is exactly why I press Democrats to push back. The media might do this kind of fact-checking on its own, but when a prominent Democrat makes the case for them, it's much more likely they'll run a piece like this. Well done, @amyklobuchar.com and @sltrib.com

"Again and again, I arrived at the same conclusion without fail: no, my eyes did not deceive me and my standards are not too high and I’m not being unfair. That was, hands down, the worst military parade I’ve ever seen." charlotteclymer.substack.com/p/the-worst-...

🚨NEWS: Senators bankrolled by crypto donors put a line in the crypto bill that says in bank collapses, holders of bank cryptocurrency get “priority” over regular depositors, meaning savings/checking accounts could be raided to bail out crypto investors. www.levernews.com/cryptos-new-...

love how it says the majority would rather have someone other than cuomo, describes how ranked choice fixes this, and then implies it's somehow less democratic

Sen. Mike Lee surely knows by now that the Minnesota assassin is a Trump supporter and religious Christian. It's not like Lee falsely blamed the shootings on "Marxists" based on evidence or logic. He, and fascists more generally, are anti-truth, pushing blatant lies if it helps fight their enemies.

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.

I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.

here’s the moment LASD advanced on protestors with horses and used flash-bangs as we reported live yesterday. www.msnbc.com/msnbc/amp-vi...

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

Video of “no kings” day June 14, 2025 in a Maine Route 1 town, Wiscasset ME. #mepolitics

It's always interesting to compare the numbers to the Tea Party protests and the respective coverage of them.

I was just reminded it was "Father's Day" which is my cue to remind everyone that "Father's Day" is a fake holiday designed to obscure the fact that Mother's Day was created for mothers to protest war, not solicit flowers.

While you're drinking your Sunday coffee, enjoy this long thread from Doug Landry on the advance planning failures of Trump's birthday party. threadreaderapp.com/thread/19340...

Honestly I still can’t stop laughing 😂😅🤣

This time-lapse video of protesters marching down Broadway in Oakland for No Kings Day gives an idea of how many people turned out today @sfchronicle.com

I promise y’all: marching in step is quite easy. Nothing difficult about it. That bad marching was intentional. I guarantee it.

Upon reflection, I’m glad I live in a nation where the military isn’t great at marching for rulers. Let’s try to keep it that way

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the strolling of the dudes They ambled up the street today before the crowds so few There wasnt much to see maybe an abram tank or two This parade is kinda mid Glory glory what a bullshit way to serve

Our military deserves better than this empty charade. Yikes. The tank squeaking over silence is incredible.

It's very difficult to accurately count crowds but I'm going to go with zero Bob

OMG, there's no one there. You see more tourists milling about on an average Saturday than at the parade. What a collosal waste just to fill the empty void in a pathetic man.

Get in losers. We're building a popular front.

Proud of Minnesotans

I had to work, but my folks went to the Wiscasset event on their way to babysit our eldest, and they said the entire bridge was filled, and all the way up the hill past Treats! Very heartening to hear. #nokings

Well past time for big city mayors to call for the arrest of anyone who claims to be law enforcement but wears a mask and/or won’t identify themselves

Replacing incandescent lights with LEDs. I somehow missed this cottage in prior years. We have always provided regular bulbs and 3-way bulbs, and clearly many guests don't know the difference. (I never did before my job included lamp repair.)

1st sat of '25 w/ 10 turnovers. I worked as a cleaner the yr we took over. Now I clean fireplaces, haul laundry, and repair. The tips aren't ours (we will take unwanted food...) but I see the tips and the cottages. Here's the rule: generous tips are from tidy people. Messy people often leave no tip.

Undocumented immigrants paid an effective federal income tax rate of 5.27% in 2022. That means they paid a higher effective tax rate than 5 of the richest Americans…and a higher effective tax rate than 55 mega corporations. So let me ask you: who are the real freeloaders?

As a rural Mainer I have very little skin in this game, but I love ranked choice voting, and I prefer not to see corrupt creeps rewarded.

We know what we have to do to save our city from Andrew Cuomo. We're cross endorsing 🤝 @bradlander.bsky.social

“Tesla’s driverless ‘robotaxis’ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school bus—and hit it.” @cbsaustin @velez_tx

The Senate bill aims to effectively end all civil rights lawsuits against the federal government except by entities rich enough to potentially pay million/billions in fees. I am not making this up.

If they'll do this to a Senator, what will they do to you? The authoritarian moment has arrived in the US.

Some really good insights in this reddit post

Fun fact: in the 1960s, Civil Rights protestors were given literal classes on nonviolent protest; they didn't all just spontaneously know what to do. So, if you're planning on showing up, this weekend: read this comic. And if you're staying home, signal-boost it/link it around.

My wife texted me yesterday afternoon that "the megabill was voted down by the bugget commitee!" Which obviously turned out to have been fake news. But why? Just clicks and ad revenue?

Mamdani's lack of experience managing a bureaucracy actually does worry me, but I vastly prefer someone with no experience to someone with a demonstrated track record of incompetence, abuse and criminality.

A brazen new form of corrupt giveaway by Trump’s DOJ: Bondi’s decision to cave in to meritless big money lawsuits by criminals pursued by the Biden administration will transfer $100M or more from us as taxpayers to those who tried to overthrow the U.S. Constitution. Ugh www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

I'll always appreciate the beauty of the old Irish song "Go on Home British Soldiers". I played it in Syria to a friend who immediately vibed with it. I suspect many L.A. residents will too. Nothing more natural than seeing an armed stranger and asking, "have you got no fucking home of your own?"
