I went to "History East: A Festival of History at Queen Mary" last night & loved the "History & Fiction" panel with Paterson Joseph, Sarah Waters, Stella Tillyard & Philippa Gregory. I even asked the panel a question & their answers really motivated me to keep going with my own writing 🥰

As part of a current Research Forum series, Prof Matthew McCormack came to the Brunel Museum today and gave a fascinating talk on "Studying the History of Boots & Shoes". I've learned a lot about the importance of footwear and look forward to diving deeper into the subject with Matthew's book 😊

My debut, FLAT 401, is available from @orionbooks.bsky.social on @netgalley.bsky.social now! It tells the story of man who was in prison for a crime he confessed to but didn't commit; out of prison, he is blackmailed over the crime he actually committed. www.netgalley.co.uk/catalog/book...

On Thursday I gave my talk on Emma Brunel at the East London History Society for Women's History Month and people really enjoyed learning more about her. ☺️👩🎩 Will share more details about the talk in a blog post soon 🙂

I'm working on a piece about a young environmentalist from London at the moment and would be keen to talk to a teacher about environmental education in the UK. TA! 🌿🌍😊 #journorequest

On access. For all events for the foreseeable future - maybe you came to my PhD event last night and maybe you’re joining us on Thursday - EVERYTHING is ONLINE. I’ll be announcing the first in my new series of discussion sessions this weekend. 💙📚 It’s access for me too!

I've just signed up for this course 🎩🥰

Today marked the 200th anniversary of the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Thames Tunnel and I have written a blog post to mark this special occasion: 😊🚇🎩 rearhine.wordpress.com/2025/03/02/h... @brunelmuseum.bsky.social

Enjoy reading in February! Here is a list of new #nonfiction #books about the #18thcentury scheduled for this month: regency-explorer.net/new-releases/ - updated! #Regency #Napoleon #history #JaneAusten #read

Really looking forward to my talk on Emma Brunel at the East London History Society next month where I'll be sharing my current research results and also explain how fiction helps me to fill in the gaps. 😊💜

Comfort read while being plagued by a cold (once again 🙃)

After my #StarterPack of writers seeking an #agent I made a waiting list. It got huge. So instead I've done Pack 2, adding other people #querying Please repost to help them out. If you want one of the few places left, please follow the instructions at the end of the thread #booksky #writingcommunity

This Friday I'll be doing a Valentine's Day talk at the Brunel Museum with insights into the love story of Marc Brunel & his wife Sophia (aka my MC's parents 😊), and how she supported him during the Thames Tunnel construction. Really looking forward to this 🚇🎩 ❤️ thebrunelmuseum.com/events/event...

I signed this petition today. 💪✍️ I love this fantastic indie cinema in the heart of the West End and watch the Muppet Christmas Carol singalong screenings there every year. ❤️

Delighted to have a chapter and introductory blog about Notes on a Drowning featured as an exclusive on the Goldsboro Crime Collective. You need to subscribe to read. @goldsborobooks.bsky.social goldsborobooks.com/blogs/news/g...

It's worth pulling this out ... So much in fashion history has been passed on via word of mouth or uncited assertion in text. I'm always interested in finding out when the received wisdom is correct/comes from actual memory of the period and when it's askew. 🗃️🪡

Here’s a thing. The majority of the entries so far have been poems. We added a poetry category for the 2025 #Curae and I’m so very glad we did. ❤️

An utterly compelling fictional imagining of 3 iconic women destined to become famous names, this book is a fantastic read with full on echoes of Taylor Jenkins Reid... Full review: #booksky bookaholicbex.wordpress.com/2025/01/04/t...

Just posted the programme for next term for @long18thsem.bsky.social at @ihrlibrary.bsky.social Very much looking forward to all the papers. Do join us! All welcome (but please register). www.history.ac.uk/seminars/bri...

Looking for some new authors to obsess over in 2025? Here’s my starter packs with some of this year’s debuts! Can’t wait to read their books #BookSky go.bsky.app/RYHeizd

Wow - what a great way to round off the year! I had the best time chatting to @matildabattersby.bsky.social for this special interview in today’s edition of @the-bookseller.bsky.social 📚 #booksky 💙📚 thebookseller.com/features/manderley-press-meet-the-real-rebeka-behind-the-heritage-publisher

Off for Christmas? Spare a thought for Gilbert Blount, Thames Tunnel intern. When he requested a Christmas holiday, the reply was stern: "Is pudding & dancing to be put into consideration against a week’s study and attention? [...] Success does not depend upon Holidays..." Find out more here:

Happy 209th book birthday to one of my favourite Jane Austen novels! 🥳❤️ Am wondering if Emma Brunel (aka my MC) might have liked it as well. She was nearly 12 when "Emma" was first published, so the chances that she read the book at some point in her life are quite high... ☺️

I've been a bit rubbish with #BertVent this year... We've still been doing it, but I've forgotten to tell you what they are. So we're gonna do a mega-thread! These are the books I've enjoyed the most in this year. Each day during December, we've given one away!

My "Visiting London in the 18th & 19th Century" guided walks are featured in a local culture magazine. ☺️ If anyone's still looking for a present to do some special, there are still some tickets left for my Wapping tours on 1st & 3rd January '25 😊🎩⚓️ www.eventbrite.com/cc/wapping-g...

Happy 181st book birthday to the iconic "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens 🥳🎩🎅❤️

As I'm getting closer to start querying my historical crime novel next year (eek!), I'm considering to get a mentor. I really like to give Emma Brunel's story the best chance possible. 🍀💫 I know there are some good mentors out there, so please share your links with me 😊

I went to see A Sherlock Carol at the Marylebone Theatre yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. ❤️ In the play two worlds collide when a grown up "Tiny Tim" asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate the death of his patron, Ebenezer Scrooge. At Christmas. The Game is afoot 🔍🎩🎅🎄

I apologise in advance for all the paperback spam headed your way - I am just so thrilled with it - and these photos make me very happy. It’s out on 2nd January and I can’t wait! #booksky www.waterstones.com/book/the-lis...

Miss Austen Investigates by @jessicabull.bsky.social is one of my favourite reads of 2024, and I can't wait for the release of the sequel next year ❤️🎩

As the year comes to a close, here are my favourite reads of 2024 😊📚❤️ (Note: Even though the majority of these fantastic books were released this year, some of them are also a little older but still deserve a shout out from me 🥰)

Murder at the Medieval Mill Medieval millers were not always well liked and it’s not uncommon to read in criminal court records that a miller had been killed. This person leaving a windmill sure looks like they regret doing something nefarious at the mill with the mallet they're holding. 🧵1/5

My book club's December read is "Julia" by Sandra Newman, which is a re-telling of Orwell's dystopian novel "1984". I find this line particularly chilling and really like to avoid living in such a horrible world: 😬👇

On Feb 6, 2025, @heathercritchlow.bsky.social and I are hosting the next Book Club Battle at the Pioneer Club, St Albans. Tickets are selling fast! So hurry up and book a table! *Note - you don't have to be a book club, you can book a table with your friends! wegottickets.com/event/634120

The CURAE becomes a charity in 2025. At the moment it’s very simple as we’re yet to achieve funding from arts bodies & we’re all volunteers. However, I’ll be looking for a patron from the world of books or a well-known book lover. Someone passionate about shining a light on the #unpaid care role
