Once again finding the Philosophy Journal Information Project really useful in deciding where to publish. (Now expanded for scholars in non-philosophy fields too!) Good on Sam Andrews for setting up such a great service to the academic community, and APA for funding it. www.pjip.org

For #PhiloFortnight2025 we host a free webinar for teachers, Philosophy in the Classroom (25 March), asking how to promote philosophical discussion via various methods (e.g., community of inquiry) & resources (e.g., videos). Register here: www.birmingham.ac.uk... #PhilosophyMatters #philsky #edusky

Very excited for this workshop in the summer. Join us!

Friendly reminder to submit to this workshop if you are working at the intersection of feminist philosophy and migration studies! www.alws.at/iws_organiza.... Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you are interested and have any questions.

Reminder that a Labour government recently ruled that refugees can never be British.

When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”

Confirmed programme for Structural Injustice conference in Cambridge on March 7th, to celebrate 5 recent books on the topic: www.polis.cam.ac.uk/events/struc...

Well this article was a long time coming: link.springer.com/article/10.1... Can pol-philosophy be experimental? Can normative behaviourism become more pro-active and progressive? I certainly hope so! Many thanks to AliceBaderin/JanoschPrinz/SuneLaegaard & esp. ManonWestphal who aren't here...

We're new to bluesky 👋 (women) In Parenthesis is a global research centre exploring Elizabeth Anscombe, Mary Midgley, Philippa Foot, Iris Murdoch and connected figures! We hold conferences, seminars and reading groups and are a growing network. Join in here: mappingthequartet.org #philsky

Can anyone get me an introduction with people involved in research management at any of: The Wellcome Trust The Runnymede Trust Any other big research orgs?

Only six more days to submit your abstract to the Conference in Feminist and Gender Theory!

When this paper was shared on the other place, I got dog-piled by anti-immigrant commentators who thought that I was a "race traitor", so I'm looking forward to seeing what you lovely bluesky people have to say!

IN NEW ISSUE: Must refugees be grateful to their asylum state? @rebeccabuxton.bsky.social & Matthew J. Gibney argue that when refugees' full experience is considered, resentment might be a more apt response: https://buff.ly/4k8lLv0 @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social @uoypolitics.bsky.social #ethics

Two Weeks In The Death Spiral Of Cardiff University, by an anonymous academic. This is truly shocking read. The Cardiff executive board should hang their heads in shame. voice.cymru/two-weeks-in...

I'm (finally) reading Unconditional Equals by Anne Phillips at the moment and it's the first academic book that I've read in a very long that I'm struggling to put down

Right, pals, I am so part time at academia that I miss everything, so I really need everyone to get back into the thing where if they see anything going on to do with Mills — conferences, CFP/CFA, special issues, whatever—that you please please tell me about it

I'm halfway through a sabbatical dedicated to writing a book based on my yearly interviews with Mary Midgley from 2011-18 for @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social. I'm curious about which topics people are most interested in? Feel free to DM!

Denying refugees citizenship simply on the grounds that they arrived here “illegally” on small boats *when there are no legal routes* for most to use takes cynicism to new heights. If Govt thinks such performative cruelty will see off Reform, they’re wrong - it’s more likely to strengthen it

Alba would like to know why I have to answer emails instead of giving her rubs

A very nice piece on Mary Midgley's ideas about how gender influenced the form that philosophy has assumed, and how they relate to more recent ideas in feminist epistemology

This should be changed asap. If we give someone refugee status, it can't be right to then refuse them route to become a British Citizen. To say they can have a home in our country, but never a place in our society and be forever second class. freemovement.org.uk/good-charact...

Massive kudos to @stellacreasy.bsky.social for calling this out and tabling an Urgent Question today.

No. The Refugee Convention explicitly states that recipient states must facilitate the naturalisation of refugees and bans penalising refugees for their method of flight. But there's no court that enforces the Refugee Convention. "Never Again" was supposed to do that.
