Looks like tomorrow will bring votes on a Republican plan to fund tax cuts for the rich by slashing Medicaid. So this is a great time to contact your Member of Congress.

The prophet of parking open.substack.com/pub/worksinp... I particularly enjoyed insights into making lasting impacts ...

just got this email from the ACM publications (I emailed a request asking them to fix my misspelled name): Dear Rebecca Wirfs-Brock, Your request has been added to the ACM Corrections Request List. We will let you know when the request has been completed. Regards, !!I'm in the queue!~

How do I get the ACM to correct my name in a citation: dl.acm.org/action/doSea... The citation: UML (panel): the language of blueprints for software? Derek Coleman,Viktor Ohnjec, John Artim,Erick Rivas,Jim Rumbaugh,Rebecca Wirfs-Bracle I am a lifetime ACM member. Rebecca Wirfs-Bracle is not.

I had a bit of a rant brewing in my brain, triggered by seeing people still using the term "manual tester" (and I know some folks happily self-identify as that, but it's often used rather pejoratively). lisacrispin.com/2025/01/15/t...

Today's word from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows:galagog--the state of being simultaneously entranced and unsettled by the vastness of the cosmos, which makes your deepest concerns feel laughably quaint, yet vanishingly rare. From galaxy + agog (awestruck)

Took this photo about 10 minutes ago. Long shadows at sunset ... the view outside my window.

Dusk outside my home. A beautiful day in Sherwood, OR. Glad I stepped away from my computer today and worked outside in the garden (there's always garden clean up chores).

OK...let me introduce John Koenig's, The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a compendium of words for emotions. Today's phrase:"fool's guilt" Shame felt altho you've done nothing wrong--passing a cop car while driving<speed limit, leaving a store w/o buying anything, or stepping away from your computer

The view from my window this morning. Today's sunrise was spectacular! And a non-rainy day in the Willamette Valley lies ahead.

A forgotten formula determined Portland’s addresses. Here’s how it works www.oregonlive.com/hg/2025/01/a... Who would've thunk...

Republishing my very first patterns paper on Problem Frames on my website for easy access. wirfs-brock.com/rebecca/blog...

In wirfs-brock.com/rebecca/blog... , I introduce my latest topical collection: 23 patterns on agile quality--patterns for infusing system quality&quality-assurance practices into agile teams. Instead of searching for obscure conference proceedings, they are now easily accessible. Feedback welcome!

OK... I promise to make some techie sw posts soon. But this first--today's bake: a loaf of cranberry orange sourdough bread, fresh from the oven. The cranberry raisins were soaked for an hour in the juice of an orange. Cold fermented for 36 hours after initial proofing.

Ok.... I joined bluesky... and uploaded this photo for my profile. I picked it because it had blue sky... it was taken this spring as the geese were migrating. The view is looking south from my house. I hadn't realized how the birds and the clouds and the trees aligned... patterns in nature!
