This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Remember Project 2025? Well they have already COMPLETED 75% of their goals against LGBTQ+ people. This is all within the first month of Trump's presidency. They won't stop until they have stripped us of our rights and forced us into camps. And they won't stop with us...

hesitation is the post killer

Frederick Douglass being relevant as ever.

I talked with Live Like the World is Dying host @margaret.bsky.social about preparedness, collective survival, and challenging ourselves "to let people be better."

abolish the senate

the line about how trump is just trolling or joking about the “king” thing is belied somewhat by the fact that his administration’s explicit position is he can do whatever he wants and that everyone in every branch of government needs to bow to his demands or be banished

Happy Birthday to Frederick Douglass who would by very disappointed in all of this BS but would never, ever stop fighting (or getting his photo taken)

"Do I need to call Elon?” one DOGE member barked at a federal security official while demanding access to sensitive information at one agency this month, a source familiar with the exchange tells Rolling Stone." Come on, man, you’re being bullied by twerps.

I've been thinking abt this smart John Ganz essay on the tendency of libertarians to support fascism & it reminds me that if we take a step back from the context of specific historical struggles, American conservatism appears to be less a coherent ideology than a *tactic* of plunder & power.

no the fuck we are NOT making “LGBQ+” a thing and if I see any of you motherfuckers using that acronym it’s on sight Marsha P. Johnson did not smash in the windshield of a police car for this

Wealthy people pay others to do tedious or difficult essential labor, but this leaves them with none of the traditional markers of gender identity they covet and so they compensate for this insecurity with exaggerated performances of masculinity and femininity bsky.app/profile/kevi...

The Beekeeper 2: DOGE DIES when?

I comfort myself by reading about the Civil Rights Movement. It reminds me why I study what I do and that people working together to make the world better can sometimes win.

Saw someone say, "End your friendships with people who are going about life like nothing is wrong." I will never understand people who think that further isolating ourselves from everyday people who don't get it is going to save us. It's not. Your judgment and disdain will not save us.

"Fortunately, many people are in fact “doing something." Essential piece from @sifill.bsky.social. sherrilyn.substack.com/p/democracy-...

If you have never seen a pre-Code (right-wing Hollywood censorship apparatus) movie, do yourself a favor and watch one like this. You will not believe what they were up to in movies back then. The cut of Clara Bow's dress in this would have been completely verboten just a few years later.

I hate understanding this skeet

We need a Schoolhouse Rock for Executive Orders, bc the media keeps treating them like they have the power to rewrite the Constitution and supersede statutes or create new crimes. THEY. CANNOT. They are simply how POTUS tells HIS ppl what he wants them to do under current laws.

Look I agree that Elon Musk appears to be on a lot of drugs every time he appears in public. That's not very interesting to me. I'm more interested in how many drugs he can do at once. I think he could probably do more than anyone ever. I bet he could take way more than the doctors say is safe.

For me, it was when the Supreme Court ignored the plain language of the 14th amendment and allowed an insurrectionist to run for office.

Instead of recognizing that being elected means you've been entrusted by small-d democrats to make decisions like this, she figures every potentially fraught choice has to be voted on. Juiceless and inept.

Look, we gotta keep beating this drum: THESE AREN'T CUTS, THEY'RE ILLEGAL IMPOUNDMENT Not only do "cuts" sound normal & suggest a proper legal process brought them about—which is a lie—but they also sound like something that fell out of the sky, a natural happening, rather than a unilateral decree

It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule.

These people are segregationist bigots, and we should call them that.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law." Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

In 1973, a brilliant critic named Stuart Hall created a diagram that changed the way we study media, and could help you survive this moment. Just dropped: the second letter in my series about how to analyze the media in a time of crisis. It's all about codes. buttondown.com/thehypothesi...
