Drug development is my day job (not like Walter White). Dabbling in health econ @ LSE. I like politics for some reason. City dweller, but happiest in the mountains. Abortion is healthcare.

About $74 million in US govt funding (including NIH) went into developing enzalutamide - a multibillion dollar drug that prolonged life for countless men with prostate cancer. Why would anyone cut this support? We need more, not less! @ascocancer.bsky.social @theaacr.bsky.social

Why is funding NIH so important? Listen to the Good News About Cancer w/ @charlesryanmd.bsky.social @mskcancercenter.bsky.social @drkarenknudsen.bsky.social & Dr. Morgans. Also amazing news about decline in lung cancer in Puerto Rico b/c of public health measures! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/4...

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

“This can’t be handed off to drug companies or biotech, because they’re not interested in things that are as preclinical as a lot of the work we’re discussing here.” Precisely.

Did dems get threatened with blackmail en masse or something? What are we doing here?

A little late evening news dump from the Pentagon….they’re kicking out NBC, NYT, NPR, and Politico and replacing them with New York Post, Breitbart, OANN, and HuffPost….insane

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

EU medicines agency quits X & moves to Bluesky "EMA will no longer post updates and content on X. We believe the X platform no longer suits our communication needs” the agency said in a statement www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Welcome immigrants from X interested in science to the friendlier skies of @bsky.app, as documented by a new @nature.com survey (but you already knew that 😉) "Bluesky is much better for science. There is much less toxicity, misinformation, and distractions." www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Dear Colleagues, the Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials Consortium (PCCTC) is now on BlueSky. We invite you to follow us at @thepcctc.bsky.social Thank you for supporting our mission!

Participating in the PCCTC-managed PROMISE Registry will add to our understanding of how genetic differences can affect patient outcomes, help family members understand their own risk of cancer, and guide discovery of new personalized treatments. To learn more visit www.prostatecancerpromise.org

The PCCTC’s work as a clinical study consortium and contract research organization (CRO) is led by our Guiding Principles www.pcctc.org/guidingprinc...

This is highly unusual and extremely concerning.

There is a reason TikTok is so good at figuring out what you want to see, and why it’s better than everything else: it’s a weapon, and the best weapon is one you don’t know exists, or worse, one you think you can’t live without

The “free speech for me, but not thee” crowd is getting really tiresome

👏👏👏

Random shoutout to urge your organization to migrate to Bluesky if they haven't yet. Content from valid, professional sources was a huge plus to the old twitter, and more of that here will only make our experience better.

The more I use Bluesky, the more I realize the ways Threads fumbled the ball. Threads’ biggest mistake: not grasping that conversation-centric social media is contemporaneous. Everyone needs to see things at the same time so they can *engage with each other at the same time*. 1/
