Summer produce is great but maybe not as good as winter citrus 🍊

By the time you’ve read this it will be too late (I’ll be stuffed to the gills with brothy, umami, tender veg and fish balls and beef and tofu and rice). Do not resuscitate.

Sometimes lunch looks like:

I moved to LA dead set on never losing my New Englander’s edge over the cold. Unfortunately, now a measly 50 degrees sends a chill down my spine. Myung In Dumplings in ktown is exactly the cure to not only my shame but also warms me right up.

The Gulf of America bullshit has strong Freedom Fries energy.

I had a dream once where I was eating a bowl of the most perfect clams topped with an entire garlicy, cheesy, salty, white pizza. Then I realized I wasn't dreaming I was just at Ronan on Melrose. Oh and the broth, the BROTH. Drank that shit with a spoon.

Japan is famous for its vast variety of food and treats. But there's far more to its snack world than just Pocky and flavored Kit Kats. Learn about the wide range of Japanese snacks - from dorayaki to almond fish and shrimp crackers - below. https://buff.ly/3CdyfjM

More from HK Lounge Bistro in SF. We saw this on our neighbor’s table and had to jack their style—cod and tofu with black bean sauce. Out of this friggin world 🌎 🚀

Did mushrooms for the first time last night and wWow they actually live up to the hype. A few morels sautéed with some butter and garlic? Ego shattering, mind blowing

Do yourself a favor and get the kampachi and uni tostada from Holbox, DTLA. Indulgent and fresh. A true taste of the ocean.

Petit Pali at Ocean Ave is the perfect stop for a romantic overnight while driving up the California coast.

Oaxacan food is truly one of the most complex cuisines I've ever had. Lots of bugs too. Eat the bugs.

No trip to the desert is complete without a stop at La Copine before hittin’ the road back to LA. Talk about a crowd pleaser 🌈✨🌵 (Don’t skip the potatoes!) 📍La Copine, Yucca Valley, CA

Gott’s Pro Tip: Make sure everyone you’re with eats the garlic fries so that no one has to worry about garlic breath 🧄 🍟 (also because they are delicious) 📍Gott’s Roadside, Napa, CA

Sometimes lunch is a donut. 🍩 This classic glazed from Mom’s Donuts & Chinese Food to Go in Silverlake is exactly as exceptional as a classic glazed from somewhere called Mom’s Donuts & Chinese Food to Go is expected to be. That is, very exceptional.

What’s better than stellar Vietnamese food? Stellar Vietnamese food and then banana pudding for dessert. ☺️ 📍HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen, Chicago, IL 60608

The prefix 4 course menu felt familiar and nourishing in the way Californian cuisine should at its core, and a reminder of how really good ingredients prepared with a forward-thinking, focused palate can bring any storied cuisine into the now. Read the full Chez Noir blog on recsfoodandtravel.com

One of the best bites in LA. The Peruvian scallop crudo at Saffy’s. I can’t tell you any more about—it you just have to go get it, okay?

Word on the street is Chef Ludo was in the building. Word on the other street is the meal was too indulgent for anyone to care. Nothing like a Big Mec from Petit Trois. 🍔🍷

Picture this—you’re walking along Sunset Blvd. You hear something. Laughing. The clank of two half liter glass steins full of beer. Forks on plates. You walk up a set of stairs behind ivy laden walls. You’ve found it. Bia Ôm, exceptionally delicious German fare and house brewed beer in Echo Park.

HK Lounge Bistro in SF is truly what dim sum dreams are made of.

Have you ever eaten a thing that tastes exactly how you wanted it to taste and also better? Bub & Grandma’s in Eagle Rock, LA really tapped in to some of my favorite jew-y flavors and fully crushed it.

Gonna be a lot of matcha on recs. Not only is it tasty as *heck*, but LA is stacked with incredible matcha (I’d argue second only to Japan? Lmk if you disagree tho). Picnic Coffee Co. in Silverlake, LA is no exception.

If you’ve been to Smoking Goat in Shoreditch, London then you know—the wings are hard to beat. You’ll think about them months later. Your mouth will water. You’ll inevitably be sad that you’re in LA and not LDN. Hot, juicy, sticky, spicy, fish saucey, fried chicken perfection.
