Retired English teacher. I am keenly focused on our existential democracy crisis, and prefer to follow citizens advocating full-bore resistance to Trumpian fascism and American oligarchy. No DMs, please.

Such a weird and relatively small thing to focus on in this moment. I guess it won’t upset the big money and it probably polls well out of context. Dems do love their situationally blind optics.

We are not "on the verge of" a constitutional crisis, this IS the constitutional crisis. Trump is not "flirting with" lawless defiance of court orders, he IS defying court orders. This is fascism.

If he could arrange with Putin to bring Ksenia Karelina, and other Americans held prisoner in Russia, home, then he can certainly arrange with Bukele, to whom we are paying millions of dollars, to bring Abrego Garcia home. (1/2)

YALE STUDY FINDS TARIFFS AVERAGE HIGHEST IN OVER 120 YEARS; WILL COST AMERICAN FAMILIES AN AVERAGE OF AN ADDITIONAL $4700 PER YEAR Republicans need to step the f*ck up and fix this mess.

So many renditions of this classic Italian song of resistance. I really like this acoustic performance by a popular street musician, with a singalong crowd gathered round him. Note the toddler in a stroller who gets into it as well. youtu.be/QdhAKFFXm8U?...

This is exactly what’s going to happen.

Donald Trump wants to send American citizens to foreign prisons. He has no respect for the Constitution, no regard for democracy, and no concern for the American people.

After Bukele and Trump left the Oval Office, did the room still smell of sulfur?

In these darkening times in which we now live, I find that hope sits on one shoulder, and despair on the other. For today, at least, this chain of songs speaks to hope. The reggae artist Matisyahu is on the bill of a music festival coming soon to my adopted hometown. youtu.be/m-u1qIUS_Tw?...

Socialism is Love for your brothers, Socialism is Linking hearts an' heads, Poverty and hunger's what we're fighting Socialism is Sharing with your sisters, Socialism is People pulling together, Won't you believe me Love and togetherness, that's what it means — Reggae genius Max Romeo, dead at 80

We are truly being governed by a ship of fools. It would be laughable if it weren’t likely to be so very damn tragic for the country. youtu.be/f_0pKOFSikw?...

This wide-ranging discussion is well worth a listen. Among other topics, much support is given as to why China is much likelier than the US to come out on top in a trade war. youtu.be/uQpkHyN5-l4?...

OMG. “Impracticable” to simply “inform,” she says? The appalling equivocation of the DOJ. Time for the district court judge to demand that the Trump regime “produce” Abrego Garcia within the next 72 hours or be held in contempt. Period. www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/d...

I so very much look forward to seeing this film. The darkening times in which we live demand more such cinema. Art can be a bold expression against fascism, genocide and injustice anywhere they take place. youtu.be/_zfZZycor9s?...

Some music this morning to get the blood pumping and the feet moving. A little anti-fascist tune dressed up in 80s synth-pop: youtu.be/uWs1-2foKoo?...

“As much as I sympathize with what President Trump is trying to do here — and I do — we simply aren’t ready yet for this,” he said. “As a nation, shamefully, we’ve gotten addicted to cheap Chinese imports.” Me: Maybe Americans will learn to make do with less. www.cnbc.com/2025/04/10/t...
