I'm hosting this discussion w/ luminaries in the civil rights, free speech, surveillance realms, to consider threats facing protesters/press amid this era of retaliation by the Trump administration. Ft. @freepress.bsky.social @lawyerscomm.bsky.social @ccrjustice.org us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

The heartbreaking statement from Jonathan Joss’s husband about his death.

1. THE CRIME SCENE

Hey folks, I have a huge request for Pride: Trevor Project is recruiting for a landmark new study. If you are LGBTQ, in the United States, and between 13-24 or know someone who is, pass this along to them. Trevor’s research has led to meaningful defenses of queer and trans lives. Take the survey

In other news, Oregon is muchly green, and the Blue Pool is blue

Gaia's Stepdaughters and Planet FTW! Always.

I know the burning question on your minds is which one in that profile pic is Remy? Here's a clue. You're welcome

The good folks at the Multiverse School have built a very comprehensive round-up of discussion and thoughts about AI: ai-problems-index.vercel.app (The copyright section is a bit under-nuanced to me and probably most folks who make their living via copyright, but the other stuff is interesting.)

Charlie Jane puts into words some of the misgivings I sensed but couldn't articulate. Thank you @charliejane.bsky.social! (I'm rebooting my current novel project largely because of issues I have with how we typically escalate and resolve conflict in our standard, "marketable" plotlines)

20/20. Relieved. Waiting for the results to process was weirdly stressful.

Look, how else are we going to make new air traffic controllers?

Defending copyright is very important at a time when the impetus to alter it skews toward corporate power, away from the individual. It's a powerful protection for creators and philosophical or abstract arguments against it are often distasteful in how they weirdly align in action w those in power.

Just finished a close reread of Station Eleven. There is so much beauty and hope in this post-apocalyptic vision. Part of this comes from how the detailed backstories humanize even the most flawed characters (though the Prophet is the least so), and the compassion the POV characters have for others.

Two cool things we can do together Saturday! One of two is Steamy in Seattle. @clarionwest.bsky.social is putting on a benefit tea party for us alien lovers and I will attend virtually: www.clarionwest.org/event/steamy...

You know the rules.

All this good news is gonna mess with my sense of reality! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Great job @txfreedomread.bsky.social, @freadomfighters.bsky.social!!! This kind of swing wouldn't have happened with your all your hard work!!!

Big solidarity with workers everywhere today. These are rough times. 🖤✊

From Obon traditions to a life-changing poem by W. Todd Kaneko, I wrote about the inspirations/sub journey of my Hugo-nominated poem, “there are no taxis for the dead” for my latest newsletter: liu-angela.com/2025/04/30/a...

"Rules-lite, shoes-lite, flavour-heavy TTRPG. Southeast Asian fantasy. Flavours include cloves, gingers, and pepper." I've just released Kala Mandala Playbook! Pay-What-You-Want on Itch. I hope you like it! heycentaur.itch.io/kala-mandala...

Research always uncovers more: I tracked down yesterday's very gay quote abt the British cavalry to a book about reasons behind the disastrous Charge of the Light Brigade. My first reaction was to connect the above description to a song I used to listen to with my high school BFF in his bedroom:

Going online in the Age of Surveillance Capitalism is like using the One Ring, in exchange for your soul & heightened visibility to the Dark Lord(s), you get: A) the power to dominate the wielders of the other Rings of Power, in one case or B) cheap stuff delivered to your front door in 24 hrs
