Any pathway to peace in Palestine & Israel should be determined by Palestinians & Israelis themselves. This is what drew me to A Land for All – a framework created by Palestinians & Israelis – based on principles of shared interests, lived experience & context: www.alandforall.org/english/?d=l...

The ancient Christians predicted social media.

This morning: hearing Japanese learners discuss how Manila and Bangkok’s traffic issues affect their tourism. Hehe.

This would be an unlawful seizure of territory in violation of the United Nations Charter, and the forcible transfer of the population of Gaza would constitute crimes against humanity. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...

"As long as you are a Ben Shapiro knockoff who can string together the words 'the intolerant left' and occasionally criticize Trump, you have a home here on our opinion pages. Because this is what conservatism is now, and we have to respect that. "

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

I’ve seen a lot of live TTRPG shows. It’s a peculiar kind of form, especially blockbuster ones that lean heavily into callbacks. I’m *exceptionally* biased, but I believe this was the best live show I’ve yet seen, somehow both maximalist & minimal, & full of joy that felt audience-aware but human.

A #BlueskyLullaby for tonight: Warning—you might have a physical reaction to this recording. The harmonies take me from goosebumps to gasping. Vienna Teng's 2013 "The Hymn of Acxiom" is about your life being tracked as data then remade by companies. (I'll link to the lyrics below.) See you around.

Just reminding myself of something for future reference. Don’t mind me. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17p...

Wow

There’s quite a crew of faithful Episcopalians on here from all over the Episcopal Church - if you’re trying to find someplace to try it out this Sunday, feel free to reply here with your city or town and we’ll see if people know specific parishes in your area they can recommend! (Feel free to RT) ⚓️

Listening to a conversation between Philip Clayton and @trippfuller.bsky.social on the recently departed John Cobb and this is probably the most compelling listen I’ve had this week on a commute.

I had to explain Zeno's paradox and play "livin' on a prayer" to my kids for them to understand this joke. Worth it.

Hello! I need a job badly! I am a longtime game writer and narrative designer. have you ever noticed that people are v reluctant to admit that they were being unreasonable after something triggers their defenses and they reflexively create a story about it. you can see this kind of thing happening online if you look very carefully

my latest @teenvogue.bsky.social my heart broke watching Pasadena, Octavia Butler's hometown, where her middle school is named for her, burn. 5 schools have been damaged. "Octavia knew"—so did Mike Davis—from studying history. denialism and targeting libraries got us here. what will we do?

“Why haven’t Black people ever built a prosperous town or their own?!” We did…several times. They just killed us, looted our homes and burned it down. Tulsa is likely the most well known of these incidents but there are many more. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

i have seen the theory that Trump is so obsessed with Greenland because he doesn't understand the Mercator projection and i cannot stop laughing. one hundred percent that's what's going on

A few facts and thoughts on fact-checking 🧵 • Fact-checking is NOT in opposition to free speech and debates. It is a significant contribution to public discourse. • Fact-checking works. Research shows how fact-checking can affect public perceptions and contribute to corrective mechanisms. [1/4]

If you live in LA make sure your devices are charged and do whatever else you need to do to be prepared in an emergency. The power is starting to go on and off.

The tip jar is still open; every little bit helps me get to do the work I do (especially at this time when I am between work and projects). ko-fi.com/renaguila

News from Duke Divinity School that Richard Hays has died. Richard was a tremendous influence on my early emergence into New Testament studies — a friend and mentor (we coached Little League and Pony League baseball together, including future Prof. Christopher Hays of Fuller Seminary)…

I am not a fan of the fact that a prayer from the 1928 BCP was repurposed by white supremacists.

What’s the deal with supposed progressives posting Gen AI imagery? You’re using several gallons of water and god knows how much power each time, to make stuff that looks like dead dog ass. And insulting actual artists in the process.

NEW: A wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover in right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. He didn’t tell family or friends. The one person he told was a ProPublica reporter. This is his story, by @josh-kaplan.bsky.social: www.propublica.org/article/ap3-...

gamergate mattered more to our sociopolitical discourse than like probably the last eight years of presidential debates

"KETO DIET. Pros: Finally put all those leftover mayonnaise packets to use; weekly grocery shopping can eventually be replaced by a single Arby’s party platter and a bag of almonds. Cons: Excruciating bowel movements once every six days; scurvy."

THREAD: In 2023, I received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of 1000s of secret files. It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

well played, sir. well played.

I’m a copy editor and inveterate pedant, but as I keep correcting people who say of Trump’s second term “most voters wanted this,” know that I have good reason for insisting otherwise.

can't stress enough, as someone who has a lot of experience in media, they know what they are doing when they run provocative and/or genuinely dumb takes. they do not deserve your well-intentioned "marketplace of ideas" counterarguments even a little bit! bsky.app/profile/aoc....

Home and tired!

Thinking about 2025 and things are pretty interesting on my end.

Night falls on Manila as I begin to worry anew about things closer to home.

Jesus did not die for the sake of traditional gender roles

There's something I need people to understand. The studio that made this released some numbers. They had to produce 85 minutes of footage to find 15 usable seconds for this ad. The machine that creates moving images out of nothing has a failure rate of 340:1 and the best 15 seconds... is this.

Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?

As Bluesky is blowing up with new users, be aware that more sophisticated bigots are moving in, and the indicators are going to get more subtle. @safety.bsky.app , I'm making a preemptive request to listen closely to people who are experts in online radicalization about that the dog whistles are.

Theological podcast night.

NEW: The great Trump-Musk crackdown is coming. And it will hit hard & fast. Journalists will be first. But everyone else is next. I urge you to read my 20 lessons in How to Survive the Broligarchy, inspired by & featuring the great @timothysnyder.bsky.social 1/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Isn’t “Ask For Angela” mostly well-intentioned BS? If a woman is able to get to the bar ‘unsupervised’ she can ask for help in clearer terms – especially as AfA is promoted online and on posters in men’s loos too? Feels more like signalling than real help. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

My son's a sweaty nonce.
