I am so incredibly sick of what I see the Trump administration doing to our federal workforce. These are people who commit their careers to serving our country and they are being abused. I want more ways to support our federal workers.

From this month, I’m starting a joint junior professorship between @fz-juelich.de and University of Cologne. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this possible by their support!

NSF is re-hiring nearly all fired probationary employees following an OPM directive and a Friday judge order. This is 84/86 probationary staff being hired back; 84 "experts" are still terminated My Signal : nidhisubs.11

I really wish scientific societies would realize that the best plan is to hold your values. You don't have to pick a fight, but you should stand for what you say you believe in.

I ❤️ Boston. I'm happy every time I go back.

We should try to recover the costs from Musk for all the things he is breaking/harming in our institutions...

The number of news stories that a director would cut for being "too far out there" if we were in a TV drama is way too high.

If our current billionaires had been paying their fair share of taxes, would they be billionaires now?

I think movie theaters should have showings of old movies that focus on how terrible Nazis are. What are your favorites?

I signed this open letter calling on Congress and the Trump administration to ensure that NOAA and its sub-agencies remain fully funded and staffed. act.ucsusa.org/4kajJuk

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. If the words didn't matter, they wouldn't be trying to stop us writing them. If the pictures didn't matter, they wouldn't be taking them down. If the ideas didn't matter, they wouldn't be trying to stop funding. All of this matters for who we are and we should not remove things in anticipation.

It is heartbreaking to see former students who've gone on to successful careers get caught in this firing mess. The way they are doing these cuts is terrible.

Does anyone remember the PizzaHut book reading program, Book It? We should have something similar except for calling your representatives every day.

The near constant refrain in my head for the last few weeks: Why?!?

Happy Civil Servants Day to all who celebrate!

Has anyone else noticed that a search on Google has gotten much worse over the past few weeks? I know it's been getting worse gradually and there are other search engines that can be used. I've just noticed a marked decrease in its ability to find anything useful lately.

Nursing a take that the major Silicon Valley firms can be understood as organized crime syndicates and perform some of the same functions as the old ones used to — money laundering, feeding addictions, skirting regulations, political influence.

Fantastic column from M. Gessen. We need to start telling the story of the world we want to see.

A large fraction of the government cuts are targeting investments in our future: our health, scientific discoveries, a stable climate, children's education, etc. They are stealing from our collective future.

I took a very long drive for some round birds. These are Willow Ptarmigans up in Quebec, aka Awebo birds. I love them so much.

I love this: "Everything is a conspiracy when you don't know how anything works"

I just read a very well written paper and I feel so much better. The barrage of hurtful noise coming from the administration can oversaturate my senses. If you are able, I encourage reading good writing or looking at good art. It's important to keep appreciating beautiful things when we can.

NOT OPTIONAL. Haskell Indian Nations University had to let go of about 50 staff, including instructors. Some students were left without teachers for classes in the middle of spring session. This is enraging.

This year I think we should change Presidents' Day to civil servants day. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who has served and everyone who continues to serve our country.
