Today is University of Oregon day at the Capitol! It was great visiting with these students advocating for the textbook affordability, student housing and the Oregon Opportunity Grant. #GoDucks

Yesterday I got to meet with Unite Oregon to discuss their 2025 priorities. I appreciate their advocacy for students, patients and renters! #orpol

Proud to support Rep. Lisa Fragala's bill to require the State Board of Education to include standards on climate change and sustainability in our state standards. #orpol #climate #sustainability

I’m fighting to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home. We will not rest until he is reunited with his family and Trump is held accountable. No president is above the law.

I had the honor of joining RSD Board Chair Michael Reyes as a judge at the Reynolds High School ethics bowl today. The students did a great job presenting their cases and debating the other team. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase critical thinking and public speaking. #ReynoldsHigh #orpol

Thanks to #PCUN for stopping by today in support of Oregon farm workers!

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 #LGBTQ #Pride #orpol #transdayofvisibility

Great turn out from East Multnomah County at the legislature's Ways and Means roadshow. #orpol www.google.com/amp/s/www.ko...

The Ways and Means roadshow came to East County today, hosted at Mt. Hood Community College. The Ways and Means committee makes the budget for the State of Oregon, and today they got to hear from East County residents about what was important to them. Thank you to everyone who attended!

A highlight of the week: meeting with Gresham’s Youth Advisory Council in D.C. Every young person deserves to feel seen, supported, and safe.

The legislature has some big decisions to make about education very soon. I'm grateful to have leaders from Centennial, Parkrose and MESD giving input and advocating for students.

This is absurd; denying climate change doesn't make it go away. Rising sea levels, more extreme weather events, melting Arctic ice, and more are affecting the work of every Coast Guard servicemember. insideclimatenews.org/news/0703202...

Gutting the Social Security workforce won’t make the system “efficient”—it will make it impossible for millions to access the benefits they earned. This is cruelty, not reform.    www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

About half of all births are covered by Medicaid. Over a third of all children are covered by Medicaid. More than half of all nursing home residents are covered by Medicaid. Republicans in Congress are making a big mistake targeting these families’ health care to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

I'm happy to say HB 2551, which expands background checks for special campus security officers, passed the House yesterday. www.theoutlookonline.com/news/oregon-...

It has been great meeting with advocates for so many important bills. This week I've gotten to meet with OSEA, AFT, students from Portland Public Schools, Habitat for Humanity Portland Region, Friends of Family Farmers, and many others.

Throwback to 2023. Another representative felt it necessary to attack trans and nonbinary people, and I wasn't having it. #lgbtq #pride

While Congress debates cuts to Medicaid, Oregon is standing strong to protect the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Our state has led the way in making Medicaid work efficiently, ensuring healthcare access for 1.4 million people.

Thanks to Dr. Bennings and the team at Portland Community College for their advocacy for higher education in Oregon. Our community colleges do amazing work in career training and academic opportunity.

From yesterday's town hall in Troutdale. It's hard to predict exactly what Donald Trump will do next, but we know our immigrant community is a target. Look out for your neighbor, reject calls for division, and know your rights.

A big thanks to everyone who came to yesterday's town hall. I'm glad we got to hear from ACLU of Oregon about ways to protect our communitiy and defend our rights, and that we got to discuss other important issues in the legislature.

HB 2557 would ban farming octopuses for food (eating wild-caught octopuses would still be OK, as would keeping octopuses as pets). If it passes, Oregon would join Washington and California in this important step to protect our oceans. www.oregonlive.com/politics/202...

Thank you to Environment Oregon for stopping by the Capitol to support HB 2679, which would protect Oregon's pollinators by restricting neonicotinoid pesticides. I'm proud to join Rep. Tom Anderson and Rep. Lisa Fragala as a bill sponsor. #savethebees

Throwback to 2021, my first speech on the House floor. #orpol

Last week Divest Oregon stopped by to advocate for the Pause Act (SB 681), which would require a moratorium on new private investments by the State Treasurer in fossil fuel-dominant funds. I think it's an important bill and I look forward to the Senate sending it over to us!

I got to spend the morning planting trees with Rhys through Friends of Trees. A bit damp, but very successful (and we learned a lot). #friendsoftrees

During Wednesday's protest at the Capitol, some teachers from Gresham and East Portland came by. We talked about what we can do to support public schools in Oregon and protect students from the executive orders coming out of the White House.

Yesterday I got to join the Animal Rights Institute, Animal Legal Defense Fund and Compassion in World Farming (USA) in support of HB 2557, which would ban farming octopus for food. Thanks to The Humane Society of the United States, Environment Oregon and Aquatic Life Institute for support!

Our state and our nation are stronger because of the diversity of people who live here, and that no one should be ashamed or live in fear because of who they are, where they were born, their race or their gender identity. You can count on us to stand by you as we weather this storm.

Many thanks to SEIU local 503 president Johnny Earl and sub-local president Andrew Struthers for presenting to House Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development on behalf of the custodians, cooks, IT specialists and many other workers who keep our colleges running!

I was dismayed to hear that a local non-profit was targeted by hateful grafitti recently--in this case, a swastika. It will take an ongoing effort to fight against hate in our community, but we will continue to do the work.

The town hall we had planned for Saturday 1/25 is, unfortunately, cancelled! We'll schedule one in February as soon as we can find a good location.

This is an excellent and necessary tool kit. Know your rights and protect the rights of others.

Today I got to speak with students at Corbett Middle School. They had some great questions!

A follow-up on the East Metro Regional Housing Conference from the Gresham Outlook. bit.ly/4ascERl

I got to look through the Secret Door to where they're working on the vestibule that leads to the rotunda. At this point, most sitting legislators have not been in office with a fully functional Capitol building. I'm excited for the big reveal. #orpol

Happy Lunar New Year! I was lucky enough to join Cayle Tern and Rep. Thuy Tran for a celebration of Lao, Hmong and Mien music and dance tonight.

Today I got to learn a lot at the East Metro Regional Housing Conference. Thanks to East Metro Leaders and Mt. Hood Community College for hosting.

Gov. Tina Kotek is asking Oregon lawmakers to expand where and how “missing middle” housing such as duplexes and triplexes can be constructed.

Proud to join Oregon Nurses Association employees and supporters on the picket line at Providence Portland Medical Center this morning. #ONA

Our East County legislative team--Rep. Ruiz, Sen Horsek and I--are ready to get started! Here are some things we'll be working on.

Oregon healthcare workers deserve fair pay and respect for the vital work they do every day. That's why I stand with Providence nurses and caregivers as they fight for a fair contract!

I turned in my keys today! Many thanks to the wonderful staff and students at East Orient Elementary for their hospitality as I worked there as a long-term sub. I'm headed down to Salem tomorrow for training, and the legislative session will begin soon.

When I say everyone is welcome at my town halls, I mean it

Thank you Oregon State Fire Marshal for mobilizing some of our brave firefighters to assist California with these deadly blazes. Watch my full message 👇

Happy 2025 fellow Bluesky people. We had a nice break the last two weeks but are not back at it and with enthusiasm. First up, we profile U.S. Rep.-elect Maxine Dexter, who will be entering the congressional fray in the minority but has long-term goals: oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2025/01/02/u...
