What does it mean for the future of attracting leadership in Los Angeles city government when bravery and honesty are met with public humiliation and scapegoating. We won’t have a great city when this is the reward for excellence.

This is a textbook example of conflict of interest and I’m shocked at how blatant this is. laist.com/news/housing...

Something I think about a lot is that Democratic protectionism around corruption has led us to this moment in many ways. The failure to aggressively root it out, leaves them open to attacks and what about moments. It’s a normalization of expectations and reactions that have lowered the bar.

Does anyone on my timeline have fluency in Arabic and would be willing to verify a correct translation for a know your rights card?

Can someone explain this Luka trade to me but keep in mind I do not follow sports at all when explaining?

There’s two astronauts stuck in space. Right now. And this is the priority?

I think about how two astronauts have been stranded in space for months quite a bit. It feels like an allegory for a lot of the issues we’re facing at systemic and institutional levels.

It was a bad idea for the city of LA to render itself broke. This was a choice by city council and the mayor. The consequences will be felt for years. It’s even worse in our current federal environment.

It’s hard for me to have words on what I believe the bipartisan effort to ban TikTok means for the future of this country. TikTok was a place where I found community. It was the only driver of my spending that was not on basic necessities. A country that trades freedom for security has neither.

Californians thanking incarcerated firefighters after voting to keep slavery legal

What’s really funny is all the other city council documents I’m analyzing that I haven’t talked about publicly yet. 😈

Nothing quite like being attacked by a dc pundit on the hellsite for *checks notes* accurately critiquing line items in the fire budget that hurt response.

A fun thing you can do is pop onto Zillow, look at all rentals in a random chunk of the greater LA area, sort by recently changed, then check every price increase to see if it was more than 10%. If there's no obvious changes (didn't go from unfurnished to furnished) then report it for price gouging.

It is probably worth noting that the fire captain going after Captain Crowley in this CNN article is a substantial donor to the mayor. It does however confirm that firefighters were turned away due to lack of working rigs. www.cnn.com/2025/01/12/u...

Hear the truth directly from the Fire Chief’s mouth.

People are desperately insisting that the bloated LAPD budget has nothing to do with the wildfires, as if climate justice and abolition aren't deeply linked. Meanwhile, we have 800 incarcerated people working the fires in a system of modern slavery, mostly Black and brown kids.

Film the police went to the fire repair yard to see the broken fire trucks for himself. We have dozens of rigs sitting unusable because the city axed mechanic positions. While it’s normal to have some out of service at any given time, our rates are way too high and hurt our fire response

Re: LAFD Budget Seeing City officials in the press ignore the severe impacts of these budget cuts, especially the ones covering for their poor budget decisions to cut a majority of departments' budgets & even AFTER Chief Crowley told them about the impacts these cuts have had, is DISGRACEFUL.

As a primary documents nerd, I have been so angry to watch the spin around the fire budget. The real story is in the numbers and the memos and I’m so glad people are speaking out on it. We should not have million dollar life saving trucks offline bc we fail to budget their necessary maintenance.

Just want to point out that @lacontroller.bsky.social, the city’s actual accountant, confirmed in a Twitter thread today that Bass did indeed cut fire department funding

Let’s be clear about Los Angeles, the city will punish you for speaking out. Crowley has been pushing for a while, but I am glad to see her say it directly and forcefully that the city failed her. I hope they don’t punish her. She’s a badass and extremely qualified.
