I think having a harem is sexist and betrays poor values and a corrupt worldview. www.wsj.com/politics/elo...

From @theathleticfc.bsky.social: FIFA is pursuing Las Vegas to host the draw for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico — but also discussed holding the event in Washington, D.C., if it made it easier for President Trump to participate.

This is so heartbreaking and makes nothing better and no one safer. It is the punitive act of an administration that values fealty over human health.

I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.

Didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there was a huge turnout in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the federal courthouse. From my seat in the jury room, I heard the supporters outside chanting throughout the hearing.

Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen is demanding a meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele over the detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and says he’ll go to El Salvador himself if the Marylander isn’t returned.

We've seen videos like this before, but usually when you see a tearful wife pleading with the kidnappers who have taken her husband, she's not talking to the U.S. president

He is a union apprentice and raising three special needs kids, two of them from his wife's previous relationships so yes he is certainly in the running.

More students living in the United States are applying to Canadian universities or expressing interest in studying north of the border as US President Donald Trump cuts federal funding to universities and revokes foreign-student visas reut.rs/4cELhEQ

Well, in the USA - at least on paper - it remains the law. (But then again... )

Trump and Bukele claim they can't release anyone from CECOT BUT THEY ALREADY HAVE: at least 9 detainees El Salvador released back to the US in the last 3 months NINE other people freed. Why not Abrego Garcia, who's there on an "administrative error"? DEMAND HIS FREEDOM NOW

We knew exactly what this administration was going to do because it was written in Project 2025. Folks can be surprised at how quickly it has moved, but no one can act like they didn't know.

The very best of America’s shitposters are now outgunned by their Chinese peers. Balance of power has shifted.

As you listen to politicians inveigh against Latinos - Reminder - it is not illegal in the United States to be a member of a gang. Also - think a bit - what does it even mean to be a member of a gang?

"Take him anyway."

More on Harvard - some of the current Republican government figures who attended (some undergrad, some law, some both) include: Sens. Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, Dan Sullivan, Gov. Ron DeSantis and Rep. Elise Stefanik.

The majority of the more than 200 immigrants Trump’s already sent to El Salvador were ordinary people without criminal records, victim to the Trump administration’s baseless lies about their pasts.

an excellent specimen of kid-generated joke, from my 8-yo son: where do sumerian kings go to rock out? ... ... ... ... the gilgamosh pit

Homework assignment: read Wong Kim Ark. It's pretty clear the birthright citizenship applies despite the status of one's parents. Wong Kim Ark was a Chinese American who SCOTUS ruled was an American citizen because he was born in California. 👶🇺🇸⚖️ www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt...

Maybe the U.S. could do a hostage negotiation with El Salvador. Trump had a special envoy for hostage affairs.

Either the U.S. government *is* able to exert monetary and diplomatic pressure on El Salvador sufficient to produce Abrego Garcia’s release, or it isn’t. The latter would be either a bald-faced lie or a pretty stunning concession of our national impotence. The Vice President should pick one.

Which they apparently disregarded - but again - this administration’s record of respecting court orders (the law) is …. Not great.

“Freedom”

Never forgotten. #JFT97

The journalists I know at @NPR.org and @PBS.org are among the best in the business -- smart, open minded, independent and totally professional. Trump made clear in the Oval Office today that what he wants are journalists who will tell him that his policies are "wonderful," not ask tough questions.

The White House cites an NPR feature that states "banana slugs are hermaphrodites" as a reason to cease public funding of the network. But banana slugs literally are hermaphrodites! Like that is just a scientific fact! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_...

Mohsen Mahdawi of White River Junction, Vermont was illegally detained by ICE during what was supposed to be the final step in his citizenship process. Mr. Mahdawi, a legal resident of the US, must be afforded due process under the law and immediately released from detention.

Good thing the administration is investigating itself

America 2025. This week is 160 years since Lincoln’s assassination. He was shot on April 14 and died on April 15. This week - April 16 - the Trump administration is changing back the name of Fort Benning, which had become Fort Moore because Benning was a Confederate general.

Has the Trump administration adhered to any court order - major or minor? There’ve been orders to bring back Abrego Garcia, hire back staff, restore AP to the press pool … serious question.

This

El Salvador is the new Guantanamo. And this time maybe slave prisons for US citizens.

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

Moving fast and breaking things - he Doge’d that trophy.

TBF - Columbia is in NYC - the city where Trump was born and raised.

Public media facing big potential cuts

So when Trump 1.0 proposed a far smaller reduction in the State budget there was an outraged response - and refusal - in Congress. Here's my story from the time - www.reuters.com/article/us-u...

Last autumn, I planted 100 bulbs

At this point, Judge Xinis should order the immediate return under threat of contempt and let the Supreme Court tell the Administration otherwise.

Trump is defying court orders … and we are seeing there is nothing to stop him
