"In an historic joint action to recover vulnerable populations of Darwin’s rhea (Rhea pennata), multiple organizations have aided the successful translocation of 15 individuals from Argentina to Chile. It’s the first international translocation of a wild population for release in the Southern Cone."

Join Algonquin to Adirondack Collaborative for their third biennial Science Symposium on April 11 in Clayton, NY. The event will bring together scientists, NGOs, governments, and citizens who are working to enhance and preserve connectivity across the Algonquin to Adirondacks Region.

We're celebrating Coyote Awareness Week (March 17-23) to honor these resilient canids & promote coexistence! 🐺🐾 #Coyotes face relentless persecution despite their vital role in ecosystems. Let’s change the narrative—share photos & facts with #CoyoteAwarenessWeek!

"One should never, ever collateralize assets so precious that their loss would be catastrophic, irretrievable, and irreversible if the deal goes bad. An individual or corporation risking property through collateralization is one thing. Such is central to #capitalism and property rights."

Because #coyotes (or “coy-dogs”) are often viewed as “vermin” and assumed to exist in large numbers, states continue to allow these unique animals to be killed 24/7 nearly all year round. At the same time, agencies continue to deny the possibility that #wolves are present.

It’s increasingly apparent that reality is not so clear-cut regarding #genetics of #canids—underscoring the need for change in both attitudes and policies for the sake of #coyotes, #wolves, and everything in between. rewilding.org/mixing-and-m...

George Schaller: With gorillas & pandas, I’d go to certain groups daily. They'd look up and see, oh, there he is again, & do their business. Some just fell asleep. Gorillas got curious & investigated me. Animals learn quickly & are tolerant if they don’t feel threatened. More:https://buff.ly/3EDZ3uc

John: You often just went into an area and started studying various species and then figured out where the important #habitats were? George: I like to sit and watch animals. If it’s an area that has quite a few animals, I look around for a place where there’s still natural habitat.

John Davis, executive director of The Rewilding Institute, met with George Schaller to have a conversation that highlights and reflects on George’s work in the field and around the world over the last 70 years. rewilding.org/a-conversati...
