Greetings from the 12th century. @metcloisters.bsky.social

Illegal protests? Such as, maybe, storming the U.S. Capitol?

New episode of ASTM’s Standards Impact podcast is out. It is about standards for footwear. The podcast is the result of lots of work from my colleagues Dave, Chris, Donovan, and Dan, but this episode’s title-“These Boots Are Made With Standards”-yeah, that’s mine. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/s...

Thank you to my @repdean.bsky.social for making this statement. We are living through a disgraceful regime right now.

I can assure you Elon, Pete Hegseth is no Edwin Stanton. And don’t get me started on Marco Rubio/William Seward comparisons.

I am thinking Musk hasn’t read Team of Rivals, just to mention one possible presidential cabinet that might have been better than this roomful of sycophantic losers.

Very happy to have read this interview today that inspired me to watch the Vinyl Nation documentary tonight. Great interview and great movie!

Hey, I will be leading my music-themed “Heavenly Intonations” tour at Laurel Hill Cemetery this Saturday, March 1 from 1:00-3:00. Come on out! laurelhillphl.com/event/heaven...

I am happy to have a new essay published on the I Have That on Vinyl website. This one is about the Clash’s London Calling but it is also about my best friend (for six months) Bob, and the records we loved together in the first half of 1980.

This album is always on or near my turntable. As my infant eyes began to make out shapes and faces, this album was one of the first things I saw. There wasnt a day when I didnt know every track on this lp. Roberta Flack serenaded me in utero, and this album played throughout our house ever since.

Not cool, @nature.org. Not cool.

40 years ago tonight at just about this time I was only an hour or so away from having my face rocked by Deep Purple. Classic lineup, dude. Classic f%£kin’ lineup. www.setlist.fm/setlist/deep...

Picked up this excellent two-disc compilation of music by “exotica” pioneer Les Baxter at @matones-music.bsky.social last night. Perfect Sunday morning coffee soundtrack. Also, Shirley and Company said it would be a shame, shame, shame if I didn’t remind you I am giving a tour at Laurel Hill today!

Meditating on my Presidential Connections tour at Laurel Hill Cemetery tomorrow afternoon by listening to Shirley and Company, who are forever connected to a seemingly annoyed President Nixon via this 1974 album cover.

I’ve got “Presidential Connections” for you at Laurel Hill Cemetery this Sunday from 1:00-3:00! Including a gentleman connected to Martin Van Buren! laurelhillphl.com/event/presid...

I reviewed “Heartache in Room 14”, the brand new record by the Altons, for @popmatters.bsky.social. Deep soul balladry inspired by classic Stax and Motown. Highly recommended if you love Otis&Carla&Marvin&Tammi. @daptonerecords.bsky.social www.popmatters.com/the-altons-h...

Happy 45th anniversary of the release of this masterpiece to this who celebrate.

I just left messages for my representative and senators asking them to save research funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. 5calls.org/issue/nih-ns...

Touch of insomnia? The voicemailboxes of your representatives and senators are open for your messages anout many crucial topics. Tonight i called about opposing efforts to dehumanize transgender and LGBTQ+ people. 5calls.org/issue/transg...

Brianna Keilar: Do you think that calling Elon Musk a dick is effective messaging? Congressman Robert Garcia: Well, he is a dick.

I also urged my senators and representatives to stop the dismantling of USAID. The current state of affairs will lead to people losing their lives. 5calls.org/issue/usaid-...

I called my senators and representative to talk about Elon Musk tonight. I am not in favor of him. 5calls.org/issue/elon-m...

Thoughts about my dad and Bob Dylan’s Bringing It All Back Home album. open.substack.com/pub/richwilh...

As a parent of two kids with special needs, I'm pretty damn excited to know that a racist billionaire who routinely uses the slur "r*tards" is destroying the federal department that's a bulwark for special education and support for disabled children.

Hey! I got the 5 Calls app and I will be using it to let my reps and senators know that I am displeased with many aspects of the Musk/Trump agenda. I created a call group - PlateOfShrimp - so if you have or get 5 Calls, join PlateOfShrimp so we can collectively track our calls! @5calls.org

Hey! Check out my PopMatters review of Death & Love Pt. 1, the great new album by melodic British pop band Circa Waves! And once you’ve given the album a listen, take a dive into their decade-deep discography, filled with pop gems.
