Imagine how much effort you have to put into looking at the terrible state of the arts in Britain and then deciding that it must be protests and boycotts that are responsible rather than wilful neglect and underfunding.

The first Danish symphony composed by a woman is the Symphony in C sharp minor by Nancy Dalberg. Performed only once, in 1918. Second performance is tonight with the Copenhagen Phil & Thomas Dausgaard - and it's sold out. Great comeback!

Pleasantly #A-Haydn-a-Day -ish (though more Mozarty).

When you go charity shopping, sometimes you tap in to a vein. Today was one of those days.

#NowSpinning Poor old Jacopo Peri. You go and invent opera, but all anyone ever talks about is how Monteverdi did it better. FWIW, I've liked this album for ever (it's on Spotify, by the way), and Ellen Hargis is having an absolute blinder.

#NowSpinning Don't know a lot about Diepenbrock at all, so this is a voyage of discovery (if the rather pockmarked CD works) #NewToMe

The Bish! Less feted than his daughter's mum (that'd be Martha Argerich), SB-K could still play a bit, and this is his most famous recording (sounding a bit dated audio-wise in this pressing, truth be told). #nowspinning

Here’s the thing about this language: “went too far” suggests that there is a level at which hating us is fine, acceptable, at which it’s ok to dehumanise us. This isn’t a disagreement on politics & opinion. This isn’t cilantro or trip-hop. This isn’t defending us. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

I write about classical music, but before Stravinsky there was Van. I've played Astral Weeks on average probably once a month for more than 35 years. I have no desire to meet him, but if we did cross paths, I'd sure thank him for this album. #nowspinning

Hold my hand to a flame and make me pick just one composer for ever and ever, it's this guy #nowspinning

Read can't recommend this enough #nowspinning

It was lovely to speak with James Ehnes recently. And what an absolute gent he turned out to be.
