Sad news: @theclaptonpress.bsky.social, an important publisher of books on Spanish culture and history, is closing down. If you want anything from their extensive catalogue, you need to order it before 7 March 2025. theclaptonpress.com

That’s how you write a headline, people.

It was great to see so many of you on Tuesday at the event organized by @lincolnbrigade.bsky.social honoring Dr. Edward Barsky (1895-1975). In case you missed it, or would like to view it again, the recording is now available on ALBA's YouTube channel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpJL...

I’ve decided I’m going to take over Lancashire, own it, level it, get all its inhabitants to relocate to Wales, Cumbria or wherever (not Yorkshire!), re-name it God’s Own Country, plant millions of acres of rhubarb and build a Betty’s Tea Room on every street corner. That’ll sort the buggers!! 👍 👀

Word of the Day is ‘bayard’ (16th century): one who has the supreme self-confidence of ignorance.

'I felt the same rush as seeing Oasis in 1994.' Hmmm. You're not really selling it there. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

man it’d be cool if we could get some precedented times every once in a while

Trump's efforts to introduce "patriotic education". They were always going to come for the historians. Watch this kind of sinister shit intensify in Britain too.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

Really inconceivable, of this group of Jewish children (4-17 years old) from Deventer, The Netherlands, *only* the girl in the white dress survived the #HOLOCAUST. #WW2 #HISTORY

Despite everything, I can't help but like the Battle Hymn of the Republic. And not to troll, but this version by the Red Army Choir is terrific. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPfZ...
