Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia. Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist. Extraordinary.

As usual, very much worth reading

Hegseth says firing of top military lawyers was about making sure "they don't exist to be roadblocks to anything that happens."

I am in a train station. It is raining. I am not watching the football. My train is late

Why did Hegseth just fire every top military branch lawyer? What did they refuse to sign off on? A Pulitzer awaits the reporters and outlet who can tell the public.

A lot of British advocates puzzled by this epithet

lol

Judge Advocate General JAGs are the military's top lawyers who administer the military code of justice. Hegseth has previously railed against the military's calling them “jagoffs” in his book. He fired the top 3 JAGs (Army, Navy, and Air Force) whom he plans to replace. He’s a Christofascist.

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

The government is looking at way of improving public inquiries, a minister announced last week. Should we be encouraged by the prospect of jam tomorrow? Or is the government trying to keep the inquiry system as well as the purse-strings under tight control? rozenberg.substack.com/p/jam-tomorrow

Hey, I know her! Time to dig out this old meme I made as advice to lawyers about social media.

I am surprised to see these comments from the Lady Chief Justice. The PM’s remarks about the Gaza judgment last week were hardly intemperate. Moreover, while the Government may well take the view that it should appeal, it is also open to it to change the law. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

The whole thing with USAID and NED has really demonstrated to me how many people are detached from reality, and how they create elaborate fantasies about organisations and individuals they don't like based on each others' delusional thinking.
