I didn't pay any attention to music until punk arrived on the scene but the raw energy, anger and politics of The Clash got me hooked straight away. So my top choice for #5albums70s1 is really easy.

#5albums24 'Glasgow Eyes' by the Jesus and Mary Chain. Any new release from JAMC would be welcome but this isn't just more of the same, it's a very effective progression in their sound, the single 'Jamcod' being a fine example.

Some tricky decisions to be made for #5albums80sfinal but not when it comes to the top spot. The sublime music, lyrics, production and sleeve design combine to make 'Closer' the best album of the '80s by far. It's sad to reflect that this would be their last record but what a majestic finale.
