The Pope is on oxygen as a result of yesterday’s “respiratory crisis.” More blood work is expected today, with another medical bulletin in early evening. (Ansa)

Cardinal Cupich: “We have received word that the Pope’s condition worsened this morning. Please continue your prayers for his recovery and for the health care professionals. working to lead him through this setback.”

Tonight, let us all pray for our Holy Father Pope Francis as he embraces the Cross of illness, that he might be granted the strength he needs, and that he may be led to a full recovery.

VATICAN: Pope’s condition "continues to be critical.”Today he had an “asthmatic respiratory crisis of prolonged entity which required the application of oxygen at high flow…blood tests revealed thrombocytopenia, associated with anemia, which required blood transfusions.”

The Vatican has reported that Pope Francis “rested well” last night. The Pope will not lead the Angelus on Sunday, but the text of the address will be published just like last Sunday.

Saying Pope Francis has “not lost his sense of humor,” Doctor says when greeting Francis as “Holy Father,” Pope responds with “Hello, holy son.”

Pope is responding to treatment but “not out of danger yet.” He is not on any supplemental oxygen. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another week. He is a good patient, spends time working, praying in chapel. When discharged, he will be able to return to work.

At 5:30 pm, in the atrium of the Policlinico “Gemelli”, an information briefing will be held for journalists accredited to the Holy See Press Office with some members of the medical team treating the Pope. Live streaming from Vatican News.

Pope Francis has appointed Diocese of Venice priest and Vice-Rector of St. Vincent DePaul Seminary in Boynton Beach Fr. Gregg Caggianelli (57) as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Italy’s President GiorgiaMeloni visited Gemelli hospital, to wish the Pope a speedy recovery on behalf of the Government and the Nation. The President says: “I am very happy to have found him lucid and reactive. We joked as always. He has not lost his proverbial sense of humor.”

NEW: Upon his arrival back from Burkina Faso today, Secretary of State Cardinal Parolin is expected to visit Pope Francis at Gemelli Hospital. Vatican sources are saying “the Pope is responding well to treatment.”

The @HolySeePress has reported that Pope Francis “spent a restful night, woke up and had breakfast.” Vatican sources indicate that the Pope is not in need of oxygen, and his heart is holding up well. He gets out of bed and sits in an armchair.

Throughout his pontificate, Pope Francis has ended every address with an ask: “Please, do not forget to pray for me, not against me. Sometimes he adds: “This job isn’t easy.” Other times he says: “If you’re not the praying type then send good vibes.” Today, we honor his requests. 🙏

Pope from Gemelli: “I would have liked to be among you but, as you know, I am here at the Gemelli Hospital because I still need some treatment for my bronchitis…. I would like to thank the doctors and healthcare workers for their care: they do such a valuable and tiring job.”

Sources inside the Vatican said that Francis’ closest advisors had urged him for days to curtail his schedule and go to the hospital. Francis resisted but finally gave in. Sources said the Pope did not want to be admitted to the hospital, but that changed once he spiked a fever.
