The Pope’s final hours: a must read. www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news...

Pope Francis’ words on Easter Sunday to his nurse: “Thank you for bringing me back to the Square," the pope felt hesitant asking: “Do you think I can manage it?” His nurse reassured him. www.ansa.it/english/news...

Pope Francis is lying in repose in the Chapel at Santa Marta until Wednesday when he will be moved to St. Peter’s. Francis recently simplified Papal Funerals: no bier, just a wooden coffin to reflect “a shepherd and disciple of Christ and not of a powerful man of this world.”

“You First.” Pope Francis ❤️

Vatican says that beginning this evening, Pope Francis’ collaborators have the opportunity to pay their respects in the Chapel of Casa Santa Marta, where the Pope has been placed in a coffin.

Per protocol upon the death of a Pope, the Papal Apartments in the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, unused by Francis, have been sealed by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church.

Pope Francis asked to be buried at St. Mary Major “in the side nave between the Pauline Chapel and Sforza Chapel. The tomb must be in the ground; simple, without particular decoration and with the only inscription: Franciscus.”

VATICAN: Pope Francis died at 7.35am from a cerebral stroke, coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.

This photo captured perfectly how Francis’ pontificate was going to be different. On the morning after his election, Pope Francis went back to his hotel to pay the bill and pick up his own belongings.

Cardinal Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, has summoned all Cardinals to Rome for the first general congregation on Tuesday at 9:00am. At that meeting, the date of Pope Francis’ funeral will likely be decided.

Per protocol upon the death of a Pope, the Vatican has changed its website Francis to “The Apostolic See is Vacant.”

Corriere della Sera has reported that Pope Francis died as a result of a stroke. The Vatican has only said he died “peacefully.”

VATICAN: “The transfer of the body of Pope Francis to the Vatican Basilica for the homage of all the faithful could take place on Wednesday, 23 April, according to the modalities that will be established and communicated tomorrow, following the first Congregation of Cardinals.”

Words fail me this morning. Thank you Pope Francis. You changed so many lives, including mine, for the better.

Statement of Cardinal Cupich on the passing of Pope Francis.

VATICAN: “Following the death of the Supreme Pontiff Francis, the Eucharistic celebration and the rite of canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis, scheduled for April 27, 2025, are suspended.”

VATICAN: Following the communication of the death of the Roman Pontiff Francis, this evening, Monday 21 April at 8:00 pm Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will preside over the rite of certification of death and the placing of the body in the coffin.

Announcement of Pope Francis’ death by Cardinal Kevin Farrell:

The Vatican has announced the passing of Pope Francis at 7:35am local today.

Regarding today’s Easter Urbi et Orbi, Pope Francis delegated his MC Archbishop Ravelli to read address, not a Cardinal. Read: There are no “auditions” for the next pope among the College of Cardinals. Francis made a conscious and sound decision.

JD Vance met Pope Francis briefly at the Vatican on Easter Sunday morning.

Pope Francis has just arrived at the central loggia of St . Peter’s Basilica to impart the Urbi et Orbi. Papal Master of Ceremonies, Archbishop Diego Ravelli is reading the Pope’s address prior to the blessing.

VATICAN: This morning, shortly after 11:30, at Casa Santa Marta, Pope Francis had a brief private meeting with the Vice President of the United States of America, James David Vance. The meeting, which lasted a few minutes, gave them the opportunity to exchange Easter greetings.

At Easter, Pope calls for “humble faith, devoid of all triumphalism;” warns against “disembodied piety that wrongly imagines that the Lord’s Resurrection resolves everything,” for “the nights that dwell in our hearts” and “loom over our world” continue on. www.vatican.va/content/fran...

Francis continues to amaze this Holy Week. Two hours before the start of the Easter Vigil, he appeared in St. Peter's Basilica and paused to pray for a few moments, amidst the emotion of the people who were beginning to fill the church. Via @FontanClara

Pope Francis has made an unannounced visit to St. Peter’s Basilica ahead of the Easter Vigil, where he greeted a group of pilgrims from Pittsburgh, Pa. He is without any supplemental oxygen.

VATICAN: Pope Francis has expressed his desire to be present at the Urbi et Orbi blessing on April 20, at the end of Easter Mass in St. Peter's Square. However, it will be necessary to wait until Sunday to assess whether the Pope’s health conditions will allow him to participate.

In rare Holy Saturday arrangement, VP JD Vance met with Vatican Secretary of State. Cardinal Parolin. Vance was in attendance yesterday at Good Friday Liturgy in St. Peter’s Basilica.

VATICAN: “Pope Francis has now arrived to visit the Regina Coeli Prison, welcomed by the Director, Claudia Clementi, and the prison staff, and is entering the main rotunda, where a meeting will take place with around 70 inmates.”

Pope Francis in prepared Chrism Mass Homily: “The shepherd who loves his people does not seek consensus and approval at any cost. Yet the fidelity of love changes hearts. The poor are the first to see this, but slowly it unsettles and attracts others too.” www.vatican.va/content/fran...

This prison holds some people, including migrants, who have not been convicted of a crime, had no due process, and are imprisoned unjustly. During Holy Week, Rep. Moore will hear about another person unjustly imprisoned. The Christian response to suffering is never a "thumbs up."

Tomorrow, Holy Thursday, Pope Francis will visit the inmates of the Regina Coeli prison. The meeting will take place in the afternoon in private. (ANSA)
