Most influential person on the NHS? Putin, by far. I wrote this 2 years ago & very much playing out now. The NHS has been at the front of the public cash queue... No longer. There will be no Breakfast with Frost mk2. We're only slowly getting our heads round that. medium.com/@Richard.tau...

Daughter: "have you met the head of the NHS?" Me: "yes, but she resigned this week. She might have been coming to our event" Daughter: "did she resign because she really didn't want to go to your event?" #nowitallmakessense

Have been saying this for some years... www.kscopehealth.org.uk/blog/power-t... @richtaunt.com @charlotteaugst.bsky.social @jacoblant.bsky.social @jessiecunnett.bsky.social

From and to. Setting up a room, #93 in a never ending thread

A pleasing symmetry to be back in a place where 41 years ago I had just been born. Thanks Kent and Canterbury Hospital for all you do, then and now.

One of the most exciting jobs in UK healthcare... are you our new Here Partnership Director? Get in touch with Here colleagues or me if want to know a bit more. Closing date 12/12. Good luck! careers.hereweare.org.uk/jobs/5236843...

editorial from @bmj.com and paper: Poor staff retention is associated with higher patient mortality. Have said it before & I’ll say it again. If you don’t care for the carers, they cannot care for their patients. www.bmj.com/content/387/...

Chair says something controversial in board paper - which is publicly available. Paper then magically disappears. The NHS's commitment to transparency is sometimes paper thin.

Hoping it might clear up by lunch and we'll get a decent number of overs by tea.

Organisational change is hard. If only we knew what stopped it happening. Oh, we do? Now that's useful... h/t (do we still do that over here?) Shane Carmichael @kscopehealth.bsky.social

Red lights in the morning I'm still yawning

If you have children in a state secondary in London, or work for one, I can come and give a wee careers talk about what's it like working in the VCSE. It's nothing spectacular, but there is always a few lovely young people whose ears prick up when I eulogise about work with purpose.

No more important task today than to follow (in more ways than one) @suzettew.bsky.social and heed her wisdom - there's very few I agree with more.

Third and most important. Safety will only be achieved if we care for the people who care for patients. Genuine care and support. Time and space to think. Compassion and kindness. A restorative just culture and a psychologically safe environment.

Second. Healthcare is always about relationships and these are being eroded by the conditions people are working in and the behaviours all around them. Particularly incivility and a general lack of kindness.

First learning point. The NHS has too many initiatives and interventions. We saw them being imposed on busy staff who shuffle from one intervention to the other without knowing quite why and what they are being asked to do. What can we stop?

In the national campaign that I led we learnt so many things which have been lost over time. So in the spirit of an organisation with a memory I thought I would share some of these

The task is, not so much to see what no one has yet seen; but to think what nobody has yet thought, about that which everybody sees” Erwin Schrodinger (1952) Pretty much sums up my approach to safety.

Boards should be about ensuring good decisions are made. But the wrong turn they make is to try and achieve this by making all the decisions *themselves*. Me here: medium.com/@Richard.tau...

Wrote this on 27/3/22 - a decade after the Health and Social Care Act 2012 became law. You probably remember because of all the street parties going on to mark the anniversary. A few reflections. medium.com/@Richard.tau...

We've all been in teams which are better than others... wouldn't it be nice to know what really makes the difference? Oh we do. That's handy. @kscopehealth.bsky.social

On leaving the other place, I'm bringing across the tweets which got the most attention over there. So yes, if they're familiar, (a) there's a reason; (b) I salute your memory; (c) just pretend you're reading it for the first time.
