But is a model of UK alignment with EU regulations leading to Mutual Recognition negotiable, I am repeatedly asked? Answer is, it doesn't cross anyone's red lines, so is plausible. But right now as for any other big move from the status quo the UK and EU politics would need considerable change.

We've watched westerns. We know what's going on in the US. The bad guys, fuelled by greed, robbery and unscrupulous ranchers, are shooting up the town. The wealthy town elders are panicked and hapless. But has anyone cast the incorruptible heroes with the unswerving sense of moral justice?
