Middle-aged and quite strange...a winning combination. Enjoy art, history, music. Natural history too. And cheese. Drink industrial quantities of tea. Will occasionally lose myself in a game. Bad at describing myself. Hi.

I believe this is a Cholus viduatus that I saw at @casabentbill.bsky.social #CostaRica #bugsky #invertefest #nature

He got out of bed and had something to eat. Then Toad crossed out: Eat Breakfast.

A bit of drama over Wastwater

Bluebellscape! I think i have a photo a day for the rest of the year just of bluebells! #bluebells #spring #woodlandphotography #nature #forestfriday #floralFriday #scape #photographersunited #PhotoHour

"relax, it's just for a stock photo - they'll probably use it for a new herbal tea brand or something"

I guess I shouldn't tease the name Blue-throated Goldentail without showing the golden tail! At @tapirvalley.bsky.social #CostaRica #birds #hummingbirds #nature

Great Prominent to light in the North Hampshire garden last night. #TeamMoth

Apoderus coryli. Hazel Leaf-rolling Weevil. Sitting on a Hornbeam leaf in April, so obviously failed to read the book about appearing in May on Hazel 😂. Bramfield Wood, Herts. #beetle.

Some lovely weevils on Hawthorn at the moment. These were from Coombeswood last week and are quite common. Apple Blossom Weevil (Tatianaerhynchites aequatus named after Russian zoologist Andrej Legalov's mother, Tatiana !) and Anthonomus pedicularius.

This is ‘Sedna’, one from my ‘Sirens’ series, photos of storm waves named after mythological beings. Her story is in the next part of this thread. 1/2 🧵 🌊 📷

A floofy male White-collared Manakin at @casabentbill.bsky.social I hear these birds lekking all day long in the forest around our house. #birds #costarica #nature 🌿

Sometimes #WeevilWednesday falls on a Sunday. I don't make the rules

An older image from 2008 for #Stunday Got an award from Mass Audubon and then I thought I was pretty cool. #EastCoastKin

Surrounded by a forest of moss, this delicate blue mushroom was an easy choice to photograph. In the Pacific Northwest, it seems this is almost definitely Mycena amicta. I had a moment where I thought I might have been misidentifying this, but I'm still very positive it's the right ID 🍄📷 📸🎞 🌿🌱 🟢 🔵 🍄

#WeevilWednesday !

If you had to choose, would you go with blue or red? Well, why not both?? This leaf beetle (Aspicela bourcieri) from the cloud forests of Ecuador sure has a unique fashion sense! It's possible the colors are implying this species is poisonous, but I believe it is unconfirmed yet.

The discos are a great laugh. I've got glandular fever.

A Common Grackle highlighted by an orb of light in the rain. Cars were driving along the road with their headlights on, and this bird landed in a spot that was lined up with the light.

It is a gorgeous morning so we are having it outside.

A quiet lavender field scene from one of our workshops in Provence… The post sunset glow was really nice so I grabbed a last minute shot 😉. #photography #nature

A trio of one of my favorite blue mushrooms I find here on the west coast in Oregon, Mycena amicta, seems to grow from summer through fall in wet, old-growth coastal forest 🍄📷 📸🎞 🌿🌱 🟢 🍄 📷 🍄‍🟫 💙🔵

Mr. Rufous strikes a beatific pose! I can't EVEN with this dude! So far he's the only male in town and def thinks he's the poo! (and yes - those feets!) #birds #becurious 🪶

Lizard week rolls on - here's Abronia graminea, an arboreal Alligator Lizard from Veracruz, Mexico. These lizards live at high altitude in cloud forests and pine-oak woodlands. They are viviparous, giving birth to live young. #lizards #herps #NaturePhotography 🌿

A #WeevilWednesday picture, a freckly weevil with its snout in a plant, chewing away. #insect #macro #photography #nature

The helicopter damselfly (Microstigma rotundatum) from the South American tropics is extremely skittish but is not a fast flier. Wait, so how does it hunt its prey? 🤔 Easy. It feeds on orb-weaver spiders that it blissfully plucks directly from their web. Now how cool is that!

We "did" Salisbury.

Sunset light over the « Devil’s Teeth » (in distance)… A memorable moment in the fjords of Senja island.

A lovely Neolithic knife - with its wooden handle - from a site with houses built on stilts on marshy land in Germany. Usually, the wooden part rots away and we just have the blade. This makes so much more sense! OP - David Connolly on FB: www.facebook.com/share/p/1EaR...

Horny Smurf. My third personal post on @bsky.app Moor Frog, Rana arvalis photographed in Limburg, Belgium on 13-03-202. Can you imagine this? ‘The more you get excited and horny, the bluer you become…’ Now it's that time of the year again, lasts only few days. #moorfrog #Ranaarvalis #spring #macro

I was distracted this week and completely missed #WeevilWednesday. There are too many great weevils for just one day anyway
